Indolent Angiomatoid Fibrous Histiocytoma Mimicking a Benign Cystic Tumor.

Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma (AFH) is a rare intermediate tumor that is often difficult to diagnose radiologically and pathologically. Herein, we report a case of AFH in the knee that was initially misdiagnosed as a cystic lesion. The tumor was first identified eight years earlier during the patient's initial visit, when plain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed, leading to a diagnosis of a cystic lesion.

Postoperative Drainage Efficacy of 8Fr Pigtail Catheter After Bullectomy: A Non-Inferiority Study.

Background There are no established guidelines regarding the optimal size of chest tubes following a bullectomy. While large chest tubes are commonly used after bullectomy, several studies have shown that pigtail catheters can be effectively employed for postoperative drainage in lung cancer surgery. This study aimed to compare the time to tube removal between an 8Fr pigtail catheter and a 24Fr chest tube after bullectomy to assess the non-inferiority of the 8Fr pigtail catheter.

Myoepithelioma Arising in the Buccal Mucosa: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

The effect of a harmful algal bloom (Karenia selliformis) on the benthic invertebrate community and the sea otter (Enhydra lutris) diet in eastern Hokkaido.

In recent decades, the locally extinct sea otter (Enhydra lutris lutris) has been recolonizing the coast of eastern Hokkaido. Their diet includes benthic invertebrates such as bivalves, sea urchins, snails, and chitons. In the fall of 2021, a harmful algal bloom (HAB) of Karenia selliformis occurred across Hokkaido's northern and eastern coasts, leading to a massive mortality of sea urchins.

Study of seasonal variation of accident-derived atmospheric radiocesium in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan during 2011-2014.

This study measured the atmospheric concentration and deposition flux of radiocesium in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, from November 2011 to October 2014. The results show synchronous seasonal change in atmospheric concentration and deposition flux of radiocesium, which is high during winter to early spring and low during summer to autumn. These seasonal variations are similar to those observed in Fukushima City but differ from those in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, comprising a larger contaminated forest area.

Case report: A challenging case of mixed-variant myofibroblastoma with complex imaging and pathological diagnosis.

Myofibroblastomas are benign mesenchymal tumors that frequently occur in the groin. They show variable morphology, and the differential histopathological diagnoses are broad, including lipomatous to myxoid tumors. In addition, both pathological and imaging findings may be complex, which makes diagnosis challenging.

Scoring model for the diagnosis of colorectal perforation and its differentiation from gastroduodenal perforation.

Purpose: Distinguishing colorectal from gastroduodenal perforations is clinically important and challenging. We aimed to establish a scoring model based on objective findings (excluding computed tomography findings) for the diagnosis of colorectal perforation and its differentiation from gastroduodenal perforation.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with colorectal or gastroduodenal perforations between January 2014 and December 2021 were retrospectively studied.

Free bone fragments are associated with the development of heterotopic ossification after hemiarthroplasty for femoral neck fracture: a retrospective observational study.

Purpose: Heterotopic ossification (HO) can occur after hemiarthroplasty (HA) for femoral neck fractures (FNF). This study aimed to investigate the frequency and factors contributing to the development of HO after HA.

Methods: The study included data from 92 of 183 patients (26 male and 66 female) who sustained FNF and underwent HA between April 2019 and January 2022.

IgG4-related disease with subcutaneous involvement and the associated diagnostic challenges with MRI.

IgG4-related disease is a rare fibroinflammatory disorder characterized by the infiltration of IgG4-rich plasma cells. Herein, we report a case of IgG4-related disease of the subcutaneous tissue with atypical MRI findings and difficulties in the histopathological examination using needle biopsy. Based on the clinical presentation and MRI findings, the patient was diagnosed with a benign myxoid or cystic tumor.

Spontaneously Resolved Suspected Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis or Macrophage Activating Syndrome Associated with Neonatal Lupus Erythematosus: A Case Report.

Objectives: To present a rare case of neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE) associated with suspected hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) or macrophage activation syndrome (MAS).

Case Presentation: A female infant weighing 2,995 g was born to a mother without medical history of any disease. At birth, the patient had erythematous papules on her face and trunk.

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament deficiency (ACL-D) causes dysfunction in the quadriceps femoris muscle, and this dysfunction hampers a safe return to sports. However, how the dysfunctional quadriceps femoris muscle affects instantaneous re-programming of motor command in response to unpredictable events remains unknown. This study aimed to examine the effects of ACL-D on re-programming of preparatory muscle activity during an unpredictable landing task.

Association of maternal genetics with the gut microbiome and eucalypt diet selection in captive koalas.

Background: Koalas, an Australian arboreal marsupial, depend on eucalypt tree leaves for their diet. They selectively consume only a few of the hundreds of available eucalypt species. Since the koala gut microbiome is essential for the digestion and detoxification of eucalypts, their individual differences in the gut microbiome may lead to variations in their eucalypt selection and eucalypt metabolic capacity.

Impacts of Segond Fractures on Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Outcomes.

Introduction: Segond fractures, characterized by avulsion injuries at the lateral tibial condyle's anterolateral structure (ALS) attachment, often coincide with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, potentially leading to knee instability. However, the influence of Segond fractures on knee stability after ACL reconstruction remains uncertain. Despite documented ALS reconstructions, there is a lack of consensus regarding the assessment of ALS failure and the criteria for surgical interventions.

Relationship between long-term visual function and the ratio of foveal avascular zone area in eyes with macular hole and healthy fellow eyes.

Purpose: This study is to investigate the relationship between long-term changes in the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) and visual function of eyes with macular hole (MH) and compare the relationship between the FAZ of MH eyes and fellow eyes.

Methods: This study included 31 patients with unilateral MH who underwent vitrectomy and their fellow eyes. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and metamorphopsia were measured preoperatively and at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively.
