Purpose: To analyze visual functions in moderate and high myopic patients with retinal detachment that developed after implantation of a trifocal intraocular lens (IOL).

Material And Methods: The study analyzed the functional outcomes achieved in 3 patients (4 eyes) with retinal detachment developed after implantation of AcrySof IQ PanOptix («Alcon», USA) and AT LISA tri 839 MP («Carl Zeiss Meditec», Germany) during the follow-up period of 24 months. Patient examination included measurements of visual acuity at far (4 and 5 m), near (40 cm) and intermediate distances (60 cm, 80 cm), spatial contrast sensitivity, spherical equivalent of refraction, and a survey of patients for subjective satisfaction of the obtained vision.

Moderate to severe pulmonary embolism (PE) can cause pulmonary arterial hypertension and right ventricular (RV) heart damage. Previous studies from our laboratory indicate that the basal outflow tract of the RV is injured and has acute inflammation followed by tissue remodeling while the apex appears normal. Right ventricular (RV) dysfunction is a strong risk factor for poor clinical outcome following pulmonary embolism (PE), the third most prevalent cardiovascular disease. Previous studies in our laboratory demonstrated that RV failure during PE is mediated, in part, by neutrophil-dependant cardiac inflammation. In this study we use DNA microarray analysis of gene expression to demonstrate that PE results in increased expression of the CXC chemokines CINC-1 and CINC-2 between 6 and 18 h after the start of PE in a rat model of PE.

Fourteen strains of hyperthermophilic organotrophic anaerobic marine Archaea were isolated from shallow water and deep-sea hot vents, and four of them were characterized. These isolates, eight previously published strains, and six type strains of species of the order Thermococcales were selected for the study of cell wall components by means of thin sectioning or freeze-etching electron microscopy. The cell envelopes of most isolates were shown to consist of regularly arrayed surface protein layers, either single or double, with hexagonal lattice (p6) symmetry, as the exclusive constituents outside the cytoplasmic membrane.
