Aim: The study sought to determine whether there is any relationship between plasma homocysteine and blood pressure levels in Nigerians with essential hypertension.

Method: It was a cross-sectional analytical study done on 120 randomly selected hypertensive patients and 120 normal healthy controls seen at the large Conference hall of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Medical Centre, Zaria as well as the ABU Teaching Hospital, Zaria, Northern-Nigeria. Pearson's Correlation and Binary Logistic Regression analysis determined the relationship between homocysteine and hypertension.

Most studies on leptin in diabetes mellitus (DM) compared to healthy controls were done in Caucasians, with conflicting findings. Paucity of data on this exists in Nigerian-Africans. Therefore, the study determined plasma leptin concentrations in newly diagnosed type-2 diabetes versus controls and its relation to obesity/demographic-metabolic indices.

Background: The study aimed at determining the response of BNP and tissue Doppler (TD) E/e´ to standard heart failure (HF) therapy in an African black population as data on these are lacking in Africa. BNP assessment in relation to HF severity and its association with its predictors were also determined.

Background: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia and folate status in a sample of normal healthy Nigerians living in Zaria as well as assess the relationship between homocysteine, folate, and blood pressure (BP) levels.
