Purpose: To collect and analyze radiation dose-related data as part of international cooperation; to define diagnostic reference levels (DRL) for 24 X-ray projections in plain radiography (DX) considering anatomical region, clinical task, and procedural technique; and to harmonize the exposure practice across country borders.
Methods: A multicenter study was performed in Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland in 2022-23 to provide dose-related data. Healthcare facilities were asked to provide processed data from their dose management systems.
This large multicenter study of 37 magnetic resonance imaging scanners aimed at characterizing, for the first time, spatial profiles of inaccuracy (namely, Δ-profiles) in apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values with varying acquisition plan orientation and diffusion weighting gradient direction, using a statistical approach exploiting unsupervised clustering analysis. A diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) protocol (b-value: 0-200-400-600-800-1000 s mm) with different combinations of acquisition plan orientation (axial/sagittal/coronal) and diffusion weighting gradient direction (anterior-posterior/left-right/feet-head) was acquired on a standard water phantom. Materials And Methods: IRB-approved retrospective observational cohort study. We included 89 patients with imaging-defined AAs with shortest diameter > 6 mm who underwent two or more unenhanced abdominal CTs using at least two different peak tube voltage settings.
Purpose: The aim of the present study, conducted by a working group of the Italian Association of Medical Physics (AIFM), was to define typical z-resolution values for different digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) models to be used as a reference for quality control (QC). Currently, there are no typical values published in internationally agreed QC protocols.
Methods: To characterize the z-resolution of the DBT models, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the artifact spread function (ASF), a technical parameter that quantifies the signal intensity of a detail along reconstructed planes, was analyzed.
Purpose: The assessment of low-contrast-details is a part of the quality control (QC) program in digital radiology. It generally consists of evaluating the threshold contrast (Cth) detectability details for different-sized inserts, appropriately located in dedicated QC test tools. Moreover, we aimed at assessing, for the first time, any effect of acquisition plan/phase encoding direction on ADC estimation.
Methods: Water phantom acquisitions were carried out on 39 scanners.

Purpose: To compare the diagnostic performance of T2-weighted images (T2-WI)+contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images (CE T1-WI) with the one of T2-WI+diffusion-weighted images (DWI) in the assessment of myometrial and cervical stromal infiltration by endometrial carcinoma (EC).
Materials And Methods: Institutional review board approved our retrospective study; requirement for informed consent was waived. 56 patients with histologically proven EC who underwent preoperative MRI and surgery at our Institution over a 34 months period were included.
Purpose: To analyse the prevalence of blunt cerebrovascular injuries (BCVIs) in multi-trauma patients by means of a post-contrast acquisition of neck vessels included into the whole-body multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) protocol performed at admission and to correlate it with the presence of risk factors (Memphis approach).
Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was undertaken for the period January 2005 to November 2011, involving 976 multi-trauma patients. Post-contrast images of neck vessels in MDCT scan were evaluated by two experienced radiologists; carotid, vertebral and basilar arteries were rated according to the Biffl classification.
Purpose: Digital radiography technology has replaced conventional screen-film systems in many hospitals. Despite the different characteristics of new detector materials, frequently, the same radiological protocols previously optimised for screen film are still used with digital equipment without any critical review. This study addressed optimisation of exposure settings for chest examinations with digital systems, considering both image quality and patient dose.
