Effectiveness of 4-dimensional maximum intensity projection (4D-MIP) for respiratory motion management with uncertain interobserver delineation.

This study was conducted to evaluate the use of 4-dimensional (4D) maximum intensity projection (4D-MIP) to compensate for the disadvantages of average intensity projection (AIP), which is used to determine the internal target volume (ITV) in lung tumors. A respiratory motion phantom with a simulated tumor was imaged using 4D computed tomography (4D-CT). AIP and 4D-MIP were generated based on 10 phases of 4D-CT, followed by contouring of the ITV and ITV; these were compared with the ITV contoured in 10 phases of 4D-CT (ITV).

Nevertheless, further evidence from real-world settings is needed to establish nurse-led cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as an effective approach in clinical practice. This study aimed to examine the clinical effectiveness and predictors of individual CBT for mental disorders delivered by nurses in various routine clinical settings.

Study of optical rotation based on the molecular structure in fused oligomers of macrocycles.

We designed a unique oligomer form in which several helically twisted macrocycles (- or -helicity) are arranged through fusion. We investigated the optical rotation of a series of fused oligomers of macrocycles with a difference in the number and arrangement of elements associated with point-chiral auxiliary. Some oligomers cooperatively attained a situation where an identical sense of twisting was preferred throughout the entire molecule.

Influence of Power-Weighted Center of Echo Signal Within Window Function on Local Strain Rate Distribution in Left Ventricular Wall.

Objective: The deviation of the power-weighted center of the echo signal from the geometric center within the velocity estimation window for calculating strain rate (SR) causes an estimation error. This study aimed to confirm whether an erroneous multilayer pattern in the SR distribution of the left ventricular wall could be corrected by considering the power-weighted center of the echo signal.

Methods: The SR distributions were measured locally in the transmural direction around the pre-ejection and early diastolic phases in healthy volunteers.

Background: Primary care physicians (PCPs) play a critical role in disaster medicine. However, it is unclear how PCPs who provide chronic support to disaster-affected areas learn from their experiences.

Methods: This qualitative study investigates the learnings of young PCPs who provided medical care during the chronic phase of the Great East Japan Earthquake disaster.

Contrasting Size Distributions among the Wing Spots of a Pierid Butterfly Suggest Different Selective Histories.

Males of the small cabbage butterfly have two dark or melanic spots in the central white area of each dorsal forewing, an anterior spot (aS) and a posterior spot (pS). We used characteristics of the size distributions of these spots to infer how selection has acted on them during their evolution. Our study reveals that the aS size distribution is normal while that of pS is very right-skewed.

To encourage potential major depressive disorder (MDD) patients to attend diagnostic sessions, we developed a novel MDD screening system based on sleep-induced autonomic nervous responses. The proposed method only requires a wristwatch device to be worn for 24 h. We evaluated heart rate variability (HRV) via wrist photoplethysmography (PPG).

Structural Variants of Midnolin, a Genetic Risk Factor for Parkinson's Disease, in a Yamagata Cohort.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease. We previously identified Midnolin (MIDN) to be a genetic risk factor for PD in both Yamagata (Japan) and British populations. However, the scale of our previous study was not sufficient to identify MIDN structural variants in the ascertained control of Yamagata Prefecture.

An MSM/Ms strain was established using Japanese wild mice, which exhibit resistance to several phenotypes associated with aging, such as obesity, inflammation, and tumorigenesis, compared to common inbred mouse strains. MSM/Ms strain is resistant to age-related hearing loss, and their auditory abilities are sustained for long durations. The age-related hearing loss 3 () locus contributes to age-related hearing in MSM/Ms strain.

[A Case of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Successfully Treated with Anti-PD-L1 Therapy after Exacerbation Caused by Anti-PD-1 Therapy].

A 52-year-old male was diagnosed with cT4N3M1b, cStage Ⅳ adenocarcinoma of the lung, and underwent 6 courses of pemetrexed(PEM), carboplatin(CBDCA), and bevacizumab(Bev)therapy, followed by 4 courses of PEM/Bev maintenance therapy. Due to the deterioration of his condition, 4 courses of pembrolizumab(Pembro)therapy were administered as second- line therapy, but the treatment was discontinued due to disease progression. Third-line therapy with docetaxel(DTX)/ ramucirumab(Rmab)was administered, resulting in a partial response, but discontinued due to adverse events.

Effect of vitamin K3 supplementation on immunoglobulin G concentration in colostrum of periparturient Holstein dairy cows.

This study was to examine the effects of dietary vitamin K (VK) 3 supplementation on immune-related substances in milk, oxidative stress indices in plasma and VK1, and menaquinone 4 (MK-4) in plasma and milk in periparturient dairy cows. Forty healthy perinatal Holstein-Friesian dairy cows were used in this study. Twenty-one animals were randomly selected and categorized into the VK3 supplemented (50 mg/day/head as VK3) group; the remaining 19 were categorized into the control group.

The heart wall has a multilayered structure and moves rapidly during ejection and rapid filling periods. Local strain rate (SR) measurements of each myocardial layer can contribute to accurate and sensitive evaluations of myocardial function. However, ultrasound-based velocity estimators using a single-frequency phase difference cannot realize these measurements owing to insufficient maximum detectable velocity, which is limited by a quadrature frequency.

Effects of dietary vitamin K supplementation on vitamin K and K (menaquinone) dynamics in dairy cows.

The effect of dietary vitamin K (VK3) on ruminant animals is not fully investigated. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of dietary VK3 on lactation performance, rumen characteristics, and VK1 and menaquinone (MK, or VK2) dynamics in the rumen, plasma, and milk of dairy cows. Eight Holstein dairy cows in late lactation periods were used in two crossover trials including a control (nontreatment) and a 50 or 200 mg/day (d) VK3 supplementation group.

Measurement of the myocardial strain rate (SR), with high spatial resolution, is useful in evaluation of the transmurality of myocardial infarction. As the SR distribution is calculated using velocities observed at multiple positions in the heart wall, it is necessary to estimate the local velocity to measure SR distribution. In the present study, our previously proposed local velocity estimator, with multifrequency phase differences, was used to measure SR distribution in the heart wall.

[Role of Palliative Care in the Introduction of Chemotherapy in Patients with Poor Performance Status].

Chemotherapy for patients with poor performance status(PS)is not recommended because it increases the risk of death and shortens their survival. We report on 3 cases in which palliative care improved PS and enabled chemotherapy, resulting in a prolonged prognosis. Case 1 involves a 57‒year‒old woman with multiple lung, liver, and bone metastases from breast cancer who was administered celecoxib and oxycodone.

An Isolated Iliac Wing Stress Fracture in a Male Marathon Runner: A Case Report.

Case: A 49-year-old man, who had started jogging 3 months before his first participation in a marathon race, presented with acute pain and difficulty walking that began during the marathon race. Tumors and bone metabolism factors were ruled out by blood examination and various imaging findings. Isolated iliac wing fatigue fracture was diagnosed and treated with conservative therapy.

Femtosecond X-ray spectroscopy of haem proteins.

We discuss our recently reported femtosecond (fs) X-ray emission spectroscopy results on the ligand dissociation and recombination in nitrosylmyoglobin (MbNO) in the context of previous studies on ferrous haem proteins. We also present a preliminary account of femtosecond X-ray absorption studies on MbNO, pointing to the presence of more than one species formed upon photolysis.

Multifrequency Phased Tracking Method for Estimating Velocity in Heart Wall.

Local high-accuracy velocity estimation is important for the ultrasound-based evaluation of regional myocardial function. The ultrasound phase difference at the center frequency of the transmitted signal has been conventionally used for velocity estimation. In the conventional method, spatial averaging is necessary owing to the frequency-dependent attenuation and interference of backscattered waves.

High Remission Rate with Infliximab and Plant-Based Diet as First-Line (IPF) Therapy for Severe Ulcerative Colitis: Single-Group Trial.

Introduction: About one-third of patients with severe ulcerative colitis (UC) do not respond to corticosteroid therapy and receive rescue therapy with infliximab or cyclosporine. Up to 20% of such patients fail to respond to rescue therapy and undergo colectomy.
