Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy using chloro-aluminum phthalocyanine for treating advanced stage-III periodontitis in smoking patients.

Purpose: To evaluate the bacterial, clinical, and cytokine profile of adjunctive photodynamic therapy using chloro-aluminum phthalocyanine (CAP/aPDT) with root surface debridement (RSD) versus RSD alone in cigarette smokers (CS) and never-smokers (NS) during the period of 6 months.

Methods: Twenty-nine patients [CS - 14 and NS - 15] were recruited for the trial having stage-III periodontitis. All candidates from the study groups were subjected to a split-mouth treatment technique receiving CAP/aPDT + RSD and RSD alone.

Chloro-aluminum phthalocyanine-mediated photodynamic therapy in the treatment of stage-II chronic periodontitis among smokers.

Purpose: To assess the clinical periodontal, bacterial, and immunological outcomes of chloro-aluminum phthalocyanine-mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT) as an adjunct to dental scaling (DS) versus DS alone among cigarette smokers (CS) and never-smokers (NS).

Methods: A total of 26 patients (13 CS and 13 NS) with clinical and radiographic diagnosis of stage-II chronic periodontitis were recruited. Each patient from both groups were subjected with two parallel therapies (split-mouth): PDT + DS (test side) and DS alone (control side).

Influence of premolar extraction or non-extraction orthodontic therapy on the angular changes of mandibular third molars.

Aim: To compare the angular changes of the third molars relative to the occlusal plane and to the second molar long axis in extraction group and compare these changes with a non extraction group.

Materials And Methods: The study included pre and post treatment panoramic radiograph records of 90 subjects treated by first premolar extractions and 90 subjects who had been treated with non extraction orthodontic therapy ( = 90). Two angular variables were measured.

AIDS Awareness: Indispensible Prerequisite Among Fishermen Population.

Objectives: Fishermen are among the most vulnerable groups for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/AIDS with reported high prevalence. Poor knowledge base has been evidenced by a few studies. The present study was conducted to assess the knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS among fishermen of the Kutch coast, Gujarat, India.

Knowledge and Perceptions Regarding Nicotine Replacement Therapy among Dental Students in Karnataka.

Background: Organized dentistry has recognized the role of oral health professionals in discouraging tobacco use. Unexplored level of knowledge regarding the benefits and prescription of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) have aroused interest among us which initiated us to assess the knowledge and perception of dental students toward NRT among various dental colleges in Karnataka, South India.

Materials And Methods: A questionnaire survey was done among 16 selected colleges in Karnataka.
