For some individuals, rates of destructive behavior change in a predictable manner, irrespective of the contingencies programmed. Identifying such cyclical patterns can lead to better prediction of destructive behavior and may allow for the identification of relevant biological processes. However, identifying cyclical patterns of behavior can be difficult when using traditional methods of visual analysis.

EEG slowing is reported in various neurological disorders including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Epilepsy. Here, we investigate alpha rhythm slowing in individuals with refractory temporal lobe epilepsy compared with healthy controls, using scalp EEG and magnetoencephalography. We retrospectively analysed data from 17 (46) healthy controls and 22 (24) individuals with temporal lobe epilepsy who underwent scalp EEG and magnetoencephalography recordings as part of presurgical evaluation.

Intra-individual variability (IIV) quantifies an individual's scatter in performances across a test battery (dispersion) or across reaction times within a single task (consistency). No studies have meta-analyzed the cross-sectional IIV literature in those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's dementia (AD). An additional aim of this meta-analysis was to examine IIV in APOE ε4 + healthy control (HC) samples.

Background And Purpose: Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) carries potentially higher risks for ultracentral (UC) NSCLC with limited prospective data to guide decision making. We conducted a secondary analysis from a randomized trial of SBRT and conventionally hypofractionated radiation (CRT) to assess these risks.

Materials And Methods: Patients (n = 233) with medically inoperable stage I NSCLC were recruited from 2014 to 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • A 3-year-old male standard poodle mix was presented with severe health issues including vomiting, difficulty breathing, and lethargy, which led to a diagnosis of a peritoneal pericardial diaphragmatic hernia (PPDH) involving the liver and gallbladder.
  • Emergency surgery revealed serious complications including a necrosed liver lobe, gallbladder issues, and suspected right ventricular aneurysms, which were treated during the operation.
  • Post-surgery, the dog experienced ventricular arrhythmia but was successfully managed and discharged after 4 days, showing good recovery after 12 months; this case highlights the rarity and risks associated with right ventricular aneurysms in dogs.

Importance: Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is widely used for stage I medically inoperable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), yet varied results from randomized clinical trials (RCTs) and concerns in treating centrally located tumors persist.

Objective: To examine whether SBRT would improve local control (LC) compared with hypofractionated conventional radiotherapy (CRT).

Design Setting And Participants: This phase 3 RCT was conducted in 16 Canadian centers.

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) with rising prevalence worldwide. DM increases the risk for depression as the prevalence of depression has been reported to be three times more in diabetics than in non-diabetics. Though depressive symptoms are more common in diabetes, they are not usually recognized and treated.

Background: Asthma is a common long-term condition that affects people of all ages. Evidence suggests that a significant proportion of asthma patients in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) do not receive appropriate diagnosis, monitoring and/or treatment. When inadequately treated, asthma can negatively affect quality of life and may lead to hospitalisation and death.

Background: Cognitive symptoms are often reported by those with a history of COVID-19 infection. No comprehensive meta-analysis of neurocognitive outcomes related to COVID-19 exists despite the influx of studies after the COVID-19 pandemic. This study meta-analysed observational research comparing cross-sectional neurocognitive outcomes in adults with COVID-19 (without severe medical/psychiatric comorbidity) to healthy controls (HCs) or norm-referenced data.

Article Synopsis
  • Identifying unusual brain activity is really important for treating epilepsy, and researchers are learning new ways to analyze brain waves to help with this.
  • The study looked at brain activity from 234 people and compared it to 63 patients with epilepsy, using different methods to see how brain patterns work.
  • They found that using a complete band power method was the best way to tell if patients would do well or poorly after surgery, and mixing both periodic and aperiodic activities gave better results.

Background: This case series highlights the connection between childhood intense imagery movements (IIM) and adult-reported maladaptive daydreaming (MD). Motor stereotypies occur in typically developing children and also with co-occurring neurodevelopmental differences. A subgroup with complex motor stereotypies reports accompanying intense imagery, often enhanced by the movements.

Background And Objectives: A sizable literature has studied neuropsychologic function in persons with migraine (PwM), but despite this, few quantitative syntheses exist. These focused on circumscribed areas of the literature. In this study, we conducted an expanded comprehensive meta-analysis comparing performance on clinical measures of neuropsychological function both within and across domains, between samples of PwM and healthy controls (HCs).

Intracranial EEG is the gold standard technique for epileptogenic zone localization but requires a preconceived hypothesis of the location of the epileptogenic tissue. This placement is guided by qualitative interpretations of seizure semiology, MRI, EEG and other imaging modalities, such as magnetoencephalography. Quantitative abnormality mapping using magnetoencephalography has recently been shown to have potential clinical value.
