Fibrous Ti/Ce oxide photocatalysts were prepared for the first time by a biomimetic solution process using short flax fibers (flax straw processing waste) as a biotemplate. Titanium polyhydroxy complex solutions with 3% and 5% cerium were used as precursors. Flax fibers were impregnated in an autoclave under hydrothermal conditions.

We report on a new approach for the synthesis of TiO-pillared montmorillonite, where the pillars exhibit a high degree of crystallinity (nanocrystals) representing a mixture of anatase and rutile phases. The structures exhibit improved adsorption and photocatalytic activity as a result of hydrothermally activated intercalation of titanium polyhydroxo complexes (i.e.

The thermal emission of alkali metal ions from Al-pillared montmorillonite in comparison with its natural form was studied by mass spectrometry in the temperature range 770-930 K. The measurements were carried out on a magnetic mass spectrometer MI-1201. For natural montmorillonite, the densities of the emission currents () decrease in the mass spectrum in the following sequence (T = 805 K, A/cm): K (4.

Background: An experiment was conducted to find out whether in utero exposure to diagnostic ultrasound leads to changes in postnatal behavior in adult mice.

Methods: A total of 15 pregnant Swiss albino mice were exposed to diagnostic levels of ultrasound (3.5 MHz, 65 mW/cm(2), intensity((spatial peak-temporal peak)) (I(SPTP))=1 mW/cm(2), intensity((spatial average-temporal average)) (I(SATA))=240 mW/cm(2)) for 30 min on day 14 or 16 of gestation.

Unilateral and bilateral variation in the course and elongation of the cervical (extracranial) part of the internal carotid artery (ICA) leading to its tortuosity, kinking and coiling or looping is not a rare condition, which could be caused by both embryological and acquired factors. Patients with such variations may be asymptomatic in some cases; in others, they can develop cerebrovascular symptoms due to carotid stenosis affecting cerebral circulation. The risk of transient ischemic attacks in patients with carotid stenosis is high and its surgical correction is indicated for the prevention of ischemic stroke.

In routine anatomical dissections for the purpose of preparation of teaching and museum specimens, it was observed that three cadavers of elderly Trinidadian males (of African descent) showed uncommon origin and variations in the number of branches of the aortic arch.

The authors compare three types of epidural analgesia using a mixture of 0.125% bupivacaine solution and morphine in 102 patients after abdominal surgery. Patient-controlled analgesia was applied in Group 1; the mixture was injected as a bolus in Group 2; continuous epidural infusion was used in Group 3.

Background: An experiment was conducted to find out whether ultrasound exposure leads to changes in postnatal growth and development in the mouse.

Methods: A total of 15 pregnant Swiss albino mice were exposed to diagnostic levels of ultrasound (3.5 MHz, 65 mW/cm2, I(SPTP) = 1 mW/cm2 Intensity(Spatial Peak-Temporal Peak), I(SATA) = 240 mW/cm2 Intensity(Spatial Average-Temporal Average)) for 30 min for a single day between days 10 and 18 of gestation (GD 10-18).

Aim: To study arterial pressure (AP) and heart rate (HR) in patients suffering from alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) with relation to genetic polymorphism of alcohol dehydrogenase-2 (ADG2) and aldehyde dehydrogenase-2 (AlDG2).

Material And Methods: AP and HR were analysed for 36 alcoholics (83 hospitalizations, including repeated ones) with genotypes ADG2 and AIDG2 at admission to and discharge from narcological hospital.

Results: ADG2 genotypes distribution was the following: ADG2-1/1--61.

Pregnant Swiss albino mice were exposed to diagnostic levels of ultrasound (3.5 MHz, intensity 65 mW, I(SPTP) = 1 W/cm(2), I(SATA) = 240 W/cm(2)) for 10, 20 and 30 minutes on day 14 of gestation. Sham exposed controls were maintained for comparison.
