Many critical processes in the cell involve direct binding between RNAs and proteins, making it imperative to fully understand the physicochemical principles behind such interactions at the atomistic level. Here, we use molecular dynamics simulations and 15 μs of sampling to study the behavior of amino acids and amino acid sidechain analogs in high-concentration aqueous solutions of standard RNA nucleobases. Structural and energetic analysis of simulated systems allows us to derive interaction propensity scales for different amino acid/nucleobase combinations.

Tuberous sclerosis syndrome (TSC) is an autosomal dominant tumor suppressor gene syndrome affecting multiple organs, including renal angiomyolipomas and pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). LAM is a female-predominant interstitial lung disease characterized by the progressive cyst formation and respiratory failure, which is also seen in sporadic patients without TSC. Mutations in TSC1 or TSC2 cause TSC, result in hyperactivation of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), and are also seen in LAM cells in sporadic LAM.

Dengue (DEN) is the most important mosquito-borne viral disease, with a major impact on global health and economics, caused by four serologically and distinct viruses termed DENV-1 to DENV-4.
