Introduction: Participation in mammographic screening for breast cancer in Australia is approximately 54% among the general population, but screening among women from some culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds is lower. BreastScreen Victoria apply strategies to increase screening including reminder letters and phone calls; however, these are usually provided in English. We present a dynamic metamaterial based on Dirac semimetals and capable of realizing broadband and tunable asymmetric transmission in the terahertz region. The Dirac semimetal resonators have a chiral structure patterned with double-T resonators that results in partial polarization conversion of waves incident upon the material, leading to asymmetric transmission across a wide frequency range. We show how the gradual shift of the semimetal Fermi energy permits a method of control over the asymmetric total transmission.

Background: A recent commentary has been published on our meta-analysis, which investigated substrate oxidation during exercise matched for relative intensities in hypoxia compared with normoxia. Within this commentary, the authors proposed that exercise matched for absolute intensities in hypoxia compared with normoxia, should have been included within the analysis, as this model provides a more suitable experimental design when considering nutritional interventions in hypoxia.

Historically, treatment based on the availability of clotting factor replacement has resulted in an arcane guideline for the correction of factor deficiencies in people with haemophilia (PwH). We modified our 910-m long path THz system to increase the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) with a nanostructure plasmonic THz transmitter (Tx) chip and a seven-mirror array reflector with 1 m diameter. When the THz pulse propagates the 910-m distance in the atmosphere, the S/N is up to 1170:1, which made the THz pulse measurable at a high water vapor density (WVD) of up to 25.2 g/m.

The generation of tissue-resident memory T cells (T) is an essential aspect of immunity at mucosal surfaces, and it has been suggested that preferential generation of T is one of the principal advantages of mucosally administered vaccines. We have previously shown that antigen-specific, IL-17-producing CD4 T cells can provide capsular antibody-independent protection against nasal carriage of Streptococcus pneumoniae; but whether pneumococcus-responsive T are localized within the nasal mucosa and are sufficient for protection from carriage has not been determined. Here, we show that intranasal administration of live or killed pneumococci to mice generates pneumococcus-responsive IL-17A-producing CD4 mucosal T Furthermore, we show that these cells are sufficient to mediate long-lived, neutrophil-dependent protection against subsequent pneumococcal nasal challenge.
