Background: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) is a treatment modality that exposes patients to 100% oxygen at higher atmospheric pressures. Recently, HBO has emerged as a potential therapeutic option for various liver diseases, offering advantages such as improved tissue oxygenation, anti-inflammatory effects, enhanced wound healing, and potential hepatoprotective properties. Understanding the benefits of HBO in liver diseases can pave the way for novel therapeutic strategies and improved patient outcomes.

A boy with bilateral congenital anomalies of the upper extremities with transverse absence of the left arm (agenesis) and absence of right thumb (disgenesis), fixed elbow in extension due to humeroradial synostosis thought that the humerus was intact. His wrist could move passively with 50° flexion, 0° extension, and 70° radial deviation. We present a case with systemic amyloidosis secondary to immunoglobulin light-chain amyloidosis (AL amyloidosis), which 18F-FDG PET/CT and 99mTc-PYP scintigraphy revealed amyloid deposition in the peritoneum, omentum, and mesentery. AL amyloidosis is characterized by the proliferation of clonal plasma cells and increased production and extracellular accumulation of immunoglobulin light chains, leading to organ malfunction. Even though AL amyloidosis can affect the gastrointestinal system, peritoneal involvement is rarely observed.

During cell invasion, large Extracellular Vesicle (lEV) release from host cells was dose-dependently triggered by Trypanosoma cruzi metacyclic trypomastigotes (Mtr). This lEV release was inhibited when IP-mediated Ca exit from the ER and further Ca entry from plasma membrane channels was blocked, but whilst any store-independent Ca entry (SICE) could continue unabated. That lEV release was equally inhibited if all entry from external sources was blocked by chelation of external Ca points to the major contributor to Mtr-triggered host cell lEV release being IP/store-mediated Ca release, SICE playing a minor role.
