Unlabelled: Unless effective preventive strategies are implemented, aging of the population will result in a significant worsening of the heart failure (HF) epidemic. Few data exist on whether baseline electrocardiographic (ECG) abnormalities can refine risk prediction for HF.

Methods: We examined a prospective cohort of 2,915 participants aged 70 to 79 years without preexisting HF, enrolled between April 1997 and June 1998 in the Health, Aging, and Body Composition (Health ABC) study.

Synthesis, structure-activity relationships and biological activity of new isatin derivatives as tyrosinase inhibitors.

A newly series of isatin derivatives (6a-t) containing alkyl/aryl urea groups were synthesized and their inhibitory effects on the diphenolase activity of banana tyrosinase were evaluated. Tyrosinase was purified from banana on an affinity gel comprised of Sepharose 4B-L-tyrosine-p-aminobenzoic acid. The results showed that all the synthesized compounds inhibited the tyrosinase enzyme activity.

A comparative study on the impact of intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid, tenoxicam and betametazon on the relief of temporomandibular joint disorder complaints.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of intra-articular injections of three different agents with well known anti-inflammatory properties.

Materials And Method: Between April 2010 and January 2013 a total of 100 patients who were diagnosed as temporomandibular joint disorder in the Department of Otolaryngology at Bozok University School of Medicine were prospectively studied. Patients with symptoms of jaw pain, limited or painful jaw movement, clicking or grating within the joint, were evaluated with temporomandibular CT to investigate the presence of cartilage or capsule degeneration.

Is there any relationship between adverse pregnancy outcome and first trimester nuchal translucency measurements in normal karyotype fetuses?

Aim: This study aims to research whether there is a relationship between first trimester nuchal translucency (NT) measurements and pregnancy complications such as gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), gestational hypertension (GHT), intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and oligohydramnios.

Method: This study included 225 singleton pregnancies attending Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University Obstetrics and Gynecology clinic for all monitoring and examinations, and gave birth at our clinic between January 2011 and December 2012. Data sources were clinical records and the hospital's automation system, and the study was planned as retrospective cohort.

The effect of hesperetin on ischemia-reperfusion injury in rat ovary.

Purpose: Hesperidin (HES), a citrus fruit extract, has beneficial effects on various ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) models. We aimed to evaluate the possible positive effects of hesperetin (HPT), an active metabolite of HES, on a rat ovarian I/R model.

The resting ECG is a safe, low cost and widely available in the clinical investigation of several cardiac symptoms. However, there is controversy regarding the use as a screening tool or routine cardiovascular (CV) risk assessment test among healthy asymptomatic adults. Two recent studies reported that ECG adds supplemental information in the estimation of coronary artery disease (CAD) risk in asymptomatic patients, especially in those with intermediate risk.

Background: Adherence to guidelines is associated with improved outcomes of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Clinical registries developed to assess quality of care at discharge often do not collect the reasons for non-prescription for proven efficacious preventive medication in Continental Europe. In a prospective cohort of patients hospitalized for an ACS, we aimed at measuring the rate of recommended treatment at discharge, using pre-specified quality indicators recommended in cardiologic guidelines and including systematic collection of reasons for non-prescription for preventive medications.

Background And Objective: Istanbul has the highest incidence of tuberculosis (TB) in Turkey. It is also the largest city, with considerable differences in quality of life across its urban regions. Mitomycin C and capecitabine in pretreated patients with metastatic gastric cancer: a multicenter phase II study.

Purpose: We conducted a multicenter phase II study to assess the toxicity and efficacy of a combination of mitomycin C (MMC) and capecitabine in pretreated patients with metastatic or locally advanced gastric cancer.

Methods: Thirty-nine patients (77 % male) between 33 and 78 years (median 66) with pretreated locally advanced or metastatic esophagogastric adenocarcinoma and eastern cooperative oncology group performance status of ≤2, measurable lesions, and adequate organ functions were recruited into the study.
