Colistin- and carbapenem-resistant (ColR CrKp) cause important health problems in pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) due to its ability to harbor multiple resistance genes and spread of high-risk clones. In this study, molecular epidemiological characteristics, transferable resistance genes, and alterations of ColR CrKp isolated from PICU were investigated. Isolates were identified by MALDI-TOF MS, and antimicrobial susceptibility tests were performed using disk diffusion method, gradient strip test, and broth microdilution method.

Background: Microsporidia are opportunistic intracellular parasites that cause a variety of illnesses in humans. There is little information available regarding the frequency of this parasite in human cases of diarrhea and cancer.

Aim: This study's primary objectives are to identify microsporidia in soil and water samples, determine the relationships between microsporidia by using sequencing analysis in the targeted area, and look into the genetic diversity of microsporidia originating from domestic, farm, and wild animals.

Although the helicopter to ship transfer operation is rarely applied in ports around the world, some of the hub ports have encouraged it. The operational process poses challenges to safety due to the nature of the work to be completed by the ship crew. This article performs a systematic human error prediction to ensure safe helicopter to ship transfer operations under different circumstances since the human factor is becoming a significant contributor to maritime accidents.

Prcis: In addition to standard automated perimetry tests, contrast sensitivity testing and macular analyses may predict changes in the quality of life in patients at different stages of glaucoma.

Purpose: To examine the relationship between functional and structural tests of visual function and the 25-item National Eye Institute-Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ-25) and the 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) in patients with different stages of glaucoma.

Materials And Methods: Standard automated perimetry tests, optical coherence tomography scans, and contrast sensitivity (CS) testing were prospectively performed in 160 patients with glaucoma.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a severe, demyelinating disease of the central nervous system caused by JC virus infection. The disease can be seen in sarcoidosis patients without additional risk factors. Here, we present an individual with PML secondary to sarcoidosis treated with 8 doses of pembrolizumab, a Programmed Cell-Death-1 (PD-1) Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor who showed significant improvement.

In this study, a new amperometric biosensor was developed for glucose determination. For this purpose, polyaniline-polypyrrole-poly(sodium-4-styrenesulfonate) film was prepared by electropolymerization of aniline and pyrrole with poly(sodium-4-styrenesulfonate) on a platinum plate. The best working conditions of the polyaniline-polypyrrole-poly(sodium-4-styrenesulfonate) film were determined.

While it is known that immunoglobulin replacement therapy (IgRT) used in the treatment of primary immunodeficiency disorders (PIDs) can lead to the passive transfer of autoantibodies, there is no data indicating that these antibodies can cause clinical symptoms in patients. This study aimed to investigate the presence of autoantibodies and their clinical correlation in patients diagnosed with PIDs receiving IgRT. Paediatric patients who were diagnosed with PIDs, and administered IgRT at our immunology clinic between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2021, were included in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate reading performance in patients with mild to moderate primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and explore its correlation with visual field measurements, microperimetry, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) parameters.
  • Researchers compared the reading abilities of 30 POAG patients to 21 age-matched controls using various testing methods, and assessed the relationship between reading metrics and glaucoma severity indicators.
  • Results showed significant links between maximum reading speed (MRS) and specific OCT measurements, with worse reading performance in patients’ poorer eye, while other visual field measures did not correlate with reading ability.

Background: The extent of the association between vitamin D deficiency and knee osteoarthritis remains inadequately understood.

Objective: This study aimed to elucidate the relationship between vitamin D levels and knee osteoarthritis through a cross-sectional analysis.

Methods: This retrospective study involved an analysis of knee radiographs and serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25-(OH) vitamin D3) levels in a cohort of 3424 individuals (2901 women and 523 men).

We aimed to evaluate the intraoperative hemodynamics, opioid consumption, muscle relaxant use, postoperative analgesic effects, and possible adverse effects (such as nausea and vomiting) of dexmedetomidine and tramadol added as adjuvants to bupivacaine in the transversus abdominis plane block (TAP block) to provide postoperative analgesia. This was a prospective, randomized, controlled trial on patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. After obtaining ethical approval at the Van Yuzuncu Yil University and written informed consent, this investigation was registered with ClinicalTrials.

Assessing nutritional status is vital for understanding and managing patients' clinical conditions. Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score is one of the most frequently used scores that evaluate caloric status, protein reserve, and immunological response estimation. This study assesses the critically ill patients' nutritional status and its relationship with patient-related factors and mortality.

Letrozole is a non-steroidal, third-generation aromatase inhibitor used in humans. Although letrozole is not approved for use in animals, it is used off-label in cases of synchronization and infertility. The aim of this study was to determine the pharmacokinetics of letrozole after a single intravenous administration at three different doses in ewes during the breeding season and its effect on gonadotropins (luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)) at the beginning of proestrus.

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) in children caused by E.coli, especially the O25b/ST131 strain, are concerning due to their increased virulence and resistance to antibiotics.
  • A study analyzed 200 E.coli isolates from UTI cases in pediatric patients to assess their antimicrobial resistance, virulence factors, and phylogenetic groupings, aiming to improve UTI management strategies.
  • The results revealed high resistance rates to commonly used antibiotics, highlighting the need for better diagnostic and treatment approaches for UTI in children.
