Background: Surgical training is hands-on, with residents requiring optimal exposure to patients for optimal training and adequate experience. Thus, despite the increased usage of virtual, non-physical resources for medical education during the pandemic, orthopaedic surgical training still suffered adversely.
Objectives: To explore the overall impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Orthopaedic surgery training, teaching and practice amongst residents in southern Nigeria.

Syphilis remains a common congenital infection over the globe. There has been a tremendous rise in the number of congenital syphilis cases worldwide in the last 20 years. It affects large numbers of pregnant mothers in high burden regions causing a significantly high perinatal mortality and morbidity, which can be easily prevented by early antenatal screening and treatment.

Eosinophils and lymphocytes have been found to play a significant role in inflammation, atherosclerosis and endothelial dysfunction. Many studies have explored the relationship between isolated CAE and systemic inflammation.

In this study, the implication of the EFT thickness (EFTt) on transmural dispersion of repolarisation (TDR) was analysed utilizing the T-wave peak to end interval (Tp-Te), the Tp-Te dispersion (Tp-Te (d)), and the Tp-Te/QT ratio.
Material And Methods: One thousand seven hundred and thirteen subjects were enrolled in the research.
Thiocyanation of aromatic compounds has been investigated using the combination of 1-chloro-1,2-benziodoxol-3-(1H)-one (1) and (trimethylsilyl)isothiocyanate (TMSNCS). The reaction with electron rich aromatic compounds proceeded smoothly to provide the thiocyanated products in high yield, while electron deficient heteroaromatic compounds were not suitable for this reaction. In these reactions, the regioselectivity was generally high.

A total of 405 consecutive patients were included in the study. The mean HAS-BLED score was significantly higher (p < 0.

A chiral four-membered ring α,α-disubstituted α-amino acid with a (R,R)-butane-2,3-diol acetal moiety at the γ-position, but no α-chiral carbon, was synthesized. X-ray crystallographic analysis unambiguously revealed that its homo-chiral heptapeptide formed right-handed (P) and left-handed (M) 3 -helical structures at a ratio of 1:1.

Methods: A total of 105 patients admitted to the authors' hospital between June and October 2015, who had history of prosthetic valve replacement, was investigated. The patients were allocated to two groups: those fasting during Ramadan (n = 42) and those not fasting (n = 63).
Background: The relationship between increased mean platelet volume (MPV) and atherosclerosis is well known. In the present study, MPV in patients with coronary slow flow (CSF) and in cases with normal coronary anatomy (NCA) was investigated and compared with the aim of identifying the relationship between CSF and MPV.
Patients And Methods: We studied 40 patients previously determined via coronary angiography as having NCA and 40 patients with CSF in the coronary blood stream, as identified by thrombolysis in myocardial infarction square.
Difunctionalization of alkenes with 1-chloro-1,2-benziodoxol-3-(1H)-one (1) was investigated. Various additional nucleophiles were tested, and oxychlorination, dichlorination, azidochlorination, chlorothiocyanation, and iodoesterfication were demonstrated. The oxychlorination product was obtained efficiently when the reaction was operated in water.

Methods Patients who underwent coronary angiography were consecutively enrolled into one of four groups: CAD, coronary slow flow, CAE and normal coronary anatomy. Results The CAD ( n = 40), coronary slow flow ( n = 40), and CAE ( n = 40) groups had similar NLRs (2.

We aimed to investigate the presence of left ventricular (LV) myocardial performance index (MPI) in patients with NCS, which was diagnosed with head-up tilt table test (HUTT), and the accurateness of the test in order to use it as a method in patients with NCS. Assuming the MPI as a potential cause of syncope, we assessed the Tei index with non-invasive tissue Doppler echocardiography method.

The study aim was to determine the association between mitral stenosis and aortic elastic properties by using strain and distensibility as a surrogate.
Methods: Sixty-six patients with echocardiographic documentation of rheumatic mitral stenosis, and 25 age- and gender-matched healthy control subjects were enrolled in the study.

Abundance, diversity and community structure of meiofauna, with special emphasis on epiphytic harpacticoid copepods, occurring in Tanzanian seagrass beds under various nutrient inputs was determined. All measured parameters for epiphytic meiofauna and diatoms (fucoxanthin) were negatively affected by nutrient input and this was detected even at the higher taxonomic levels of meiofauna, supporting the validity of higher taxon surrogacy in environmental impact studies. However, benthic meiofauna and other biofilm characteristics (chlorophyll a) did not show any difference between sites suggesting that nutrient enrichment had less impact on these variables.

Introduction: Sixteen percent of all motor-vehicle fatalities are pedestrian, and accidents involving pedestrians are associated with the highest morbidity and mortality rates. Classic pedestrian injury patterns have been described. However, it has been suggested that the pattern may differ if the pedestrian is intoxicated.

These were reviewed to determine the injury patterns, circumstances, and mechanisms involved. In addition, the survival time, the driver's age and sex, the time of day of the accident, and the blood alcohol level were considered.

The external beveling caused by an entrance gunshot wound to the skull has not been completely explained, but the mechanism is probably a combination of several factors including the angle of shot, twisting force of a rotating bullet, blow-back effect, velocity, shape and size of the bullet, outspread of the kinetic energy from the bullet, and resistance of the skull.

Seat-belt injuries to the neck in a traffic accident or any trauma to the neck in other situations can cause tearing of the inner surface of the carotid arteries and lead to the formation of a fresh thrombus, or can cause partial to complete transection of the carotid arteries.
