Measuring transient functional connectivity is an important challenge in electroencephalogram (EEG) research. Here, the rich potential for insightful, discriminative information of brain activity offered by high-temporal resolution is confounded by the inherent noise of the medium and the spurious nature of correlations computed over short temporal windows. We propose a methodology to overcome these problems called filter average short-term (FAST) functional connectivity.

We have compiled the updated literature of diverse polyphenols active against common viral diseases, including herpes, hepatitis, influenza, rota and SARS-corona-viruses. The antiviral activity of bioactive polyphenols depends on the hydroxyl and ester groups of polyphenol molecules, as compounds with five or more hydroxyl groups and three specific methoxy groups showed antiviral potential, like anti-rabies activity.

Their evaluation on a panel of bacterial strains (, , , and ), pathogenic fungi (, , and ), and human cells (hRBC, BEAS-2B, Caco-2, HaCaT, and HepG2) enabled the identification of two heptamers with improved activity to selectively fight pathogens. Modulation of parameters such as the nature of the triazolium and hydrophobic/lipophilic side chains, the charge content, and the sequence length drastically potentiates activity and selectivity.

The combination of transcranial magnetic stimulation and electroencephalography (TMS-EEG) is emerging as a valuable tool for investigating brain functions in health and disease. However, the detailed neural mechanisms underlying TMS-EEG responses, including TMS-evoked EEG potentials (TEPs) and TMS-induced EEG oscillations (TIOs), remain largely unknown. Combining TMS-EEG with pharmacological interventions provides a unique opportunity to elucidate the roles of specific receptor-mediated neurotransmissions in these responses.
