Examining Provider Attitudes and Barriers toward Prescribing PrEP within Primary Care Settings in Alabama.

Objectives: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective HIV prevention tool. Expanding PrEP access and utilization is made possible by incorporating it into primary care practice. This study explored the barriers in and attitudes toward prescribing PrEP to adults among primary care providers (PCPs) in Alabama, a priority HIV jurisdiction with low PrEP uptake.

Twice-Yearly Lenacapavir for HIV Prevention in Men and Gender-Diverse Persons.

Background: Twice-yearly subcutaneous lenacapavir has been shown to be efficacious for prevention of HIV infection in cisgender women. The efficacy of lenacapavir for preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in cisgender men, transgender women, transgender men, and gender-nonbinary persons is unclear.

Methods: In this phase 3, double-blind, randomized, active-controlled trial, we randomly assigned participants in a 2:1 ratio to receive subcutaneous lenacapavir every 26 weeks or daily oral emtricitabine-tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (F/TDF).

"Society Isn't Designed for Us to Win": Trauma and Sexual Healthcare Experiences Among Transgender Women in the Southeastern United States.

Transgender women (TGW) are disproportionately affected by sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Experienced trauma threatens TGW's commitment to sexual healthcare. Trauma-informed approaches to sexual healthcare can improve engagement.

Recruiting transgender men in the Southeastern United States for genital microbiome research: Lessons learned.

Background: Transgender men (TGM) are underrepresented in genital microbiome research. Our prospective study in Birmingham, AL investigated genital microbiota changes over time in TGM initiating testosterone, including the development of incident bacterial vaginosis (iBV). Here, we present lessons learned from recruitment challenges encountered during the conduct of this study.

Spontaneous resolution of infection in men.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the early natural history of in men recently testing positive for this infection by a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT). We hypothesised that 50% of men would spontaneously resolve their infection (in the absence of treatment) on repeat NAAT.

Methods: Men ages ≥18 years at the Jefferson County Health Department Sexual Health Clinic testing positive for by NAAT during standard-of-care (SOC) within the past 30 days and presenting to the clinic for treatment were approached.
