Improving capacity for advanced training in obstetric surgery: evaluation of a blended learning approach.

Background: Significant differences in outcomes for mothers and babies following obstetric surgical interventions between low- and middle-income countries and high-income settings have demonstrated a need for improvements in quality of care and training of obstetric surgical and anaesthetic providers. To address this, a five-day face-to-face training intervention was developed. When roll-out was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the course was redesigned for delivery by blended learning.

Background: Oesophago-gastric cancer surgery negatively affects quality of life with a high postoperative symptom burden. Several conditions that may be diagnosed and treated after surgery are recognised. However, consensus regarding their definition and management is lacking.

Replication of sequence information is of fundamental importance in biology; however, it represents a challenge for synthetic polymer chemistry. A combination of covalent and noncovalent base pairs has been used to achieve high-fidelity templated synthesis of synthetic polymers that encode information as a sequence of different side-chain recognition units.

Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery of Great Britain and Ireland (AUGIS)/perioperative quality initiative (POQI) consensus statement on prehabilitation in oesophagogastric surgery.

Background: Prehabilitation is safe, feasible and may improve a range of outcomes in patients with oesophago-gastric cancer (OGC). Recent studies have suggested the potential of prehabilitation to improve body composition, sarcopenia and physical fitness, reduce surgical complications and improve quality of life. Despite this, prehabilitation services are not offered throughout all OGC centres in the UK.
