We investigated the association of matrix metalloproteinases, the disintegrin and metalloprotease 33 and the tissue and serum inhibitors of proteinase gene polymorphisms with severe chronic respiratory diseases in Tatar children. We analyzed the case-control data sample from a total of 592 Tatar individuals, consisting of 119 children with chronic bronchitis, 138 with recurrent pneumonia and 335 control children residing in Ufa (Russia). The percentage of heterozygous genotype for the MMP9 (2660A>G) was higher among healthy children (52.

For this purpose, PCR-RFLP analysis of the gene polymorphisms in case (N = 391) and control (N = 514) groups has been performed. The 6A6A genotype of the MMP3--1171 5A > 6A polymorphism was associated with significantly high risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (OR = 2.

An association of these markers with the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) was tested. Interethnic differences relative to the distribution of the polymorphic variants of the GSTP1 locus Ile105Val and the NQO1 locus 609C/T were revealed.

Overall 392 patients with lymphosarcoma were under observation from 1980 to 1989 at the department of childhood hematology, All-Union Cancer Research Center, USSR AMS. The patients were characterized by the moment of the disease diagnosis. During treatment, 70 patients (31%) developed disease relapses.

Concentration of total polyamines was distinctly lower in blood of patients with acute lymphoblast and myeloblast leukoses as compared with healthy persons. Free and total polyamines were unaltered in blood of these patients after cytostatic therapy.
