In 2018, the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA) established its third task group (TG) on the implementation of the eye lens dose limit. To contribute to sharing experience and raising awareness within the radiation protection community about protection of workers in exposure of the lens of the eye, the TG conducted a questionnaire survey and analysed the responses. This paper provides an overview of the results of the questionnaire.

Aim: Direct immunogenicity comparison of adjuvants from various sources and with different mechanisms of action for inactivated influenza vaccines.

Materials And Methods: Groups of mice were immunized intramuscularly twice with an inactivated whole-virion influenza vaccine based on A/California/07/2009 X-179A (H1N1) strain. The following adjuvants were added to the vaccine (10 in total): aluminium hydroxide, oligonucleotide CpG, complete Freund's adjuvant, poly(lactide-coglycolide) microparticles, monophosphoryl lipid A and polyoxidonium, as well as 2 adjuvants based on characterized chitosan substances with different physical/chemical properties and 2 experimental complex formulations (a multi-component adjuvant and an oil-in-water emulsion based on squalene and tocopherol).

Aim: Direct comparative studies of immunogenicity and protective effect of live cold-adapted (ca) and inactivated vaccines against type A influenza.

Materials And Methods: Groups of mice were immunized intramuscularly (i/m) or intranasally (i/n) twice with inactivated or live ca vaccines based on wild-type parent strain A/Krasnodar/101/59 (H2N2) and the corresponding ca donor strain A/Krasnodar/101/59/30CE/5MDCK/l/7/4 (H2N2), respectively. Immunogenicity was determined by HAI antibodies in sera and lungs (extracts) against both vaccine strains.

Comparative evaluation of live attenuated and inactivated influenza vaccines based on data from direct comparative studies is necessary for ensuring the most effective and safe vaccination against influenza. Analysis of direct comparative preclinical and clinical studies of inactivated and live cold-adapted (ca) influenza vaccines showed that published data are inconsistent and limited for some population groups. Live ca vaccines may be promising as an alternative or addition to inactivated vaccines especially for mass vaccination against influenza in children as well as in the elderly when combined with inactivated vaccines.

A new biogenic composite material based on hydroxyapatite and collagen with silamine was effectively used in dental implantology. Use of this material was conductive to a better course of the implant integration in the adjacent tissue structures and prevented the development of resorptive and atrophic changes in the alveolar process. Use of composite material in patients with relative indications for implantation precluded the development of complications in the early postoperative period and in remote periods of the follow-up.
