The diagnosis of familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is primarily based on clinical standards. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relevance of Mediterranean fever (MEFV) genetic testing in the diagnosis of FMF as well as to identify the most frequent variant alleles and their relationship to clinical symptoms in Egyptian patients. Egyptian patients with a clinical suspicion of having FMF were studied in order to determine MEFV genotypes.

Background: Since iron is crucial for many tissue processes, we, therefore, aimed to assess ferritin and the zinc protoporphyrin to heme ratio (ZnPP/H) as indicators of iron status in preterm newborns, particularly during certain inflammatory episodes.
Methods: From 170 preterm babies, paired ferritin and ZnPP/H measurements were collected twice (on the first postnatal day and six weeks later). To compare these measures and assess the impact of anemia, sepsis, and packed red blood cell transfusion (PRBT), three different scenarios were considered.
Background: There is evidence to support that vitiligo is linked to metabolic syndrome (MS), confirming its systemic nature. However, the underlying pathogenic mechanisms remain unknown.
Objectives: To reveal the possible association of MS with vitiligo.
Background: Apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene isoforms have been found to affect the risk of superficial fungal infections (SFIs). However, the data only cover a few ethnicities.
Aims: The present work intended to investigate the association of APOE gene polymorphism and serum lipids with the susceptibility of SFIs among a group of Egyptian patients.
Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) pathophysiology is mediated by systemic, intraplaque myocardial inflammatory processes that occur mainly due to coronary artery thrombosis in an atherosclerotic plaque area. The G-protein-coupled chemokine receptor (Ccr6) is displayed on the surface of many types of leukocytes, that have been found in atherosclerotic plaques. It is a novel mediator of inflammation and immune response.
