Risk of biochemical recurrence in patients with a positive surgical margin after radical prostatectomy.

Introduction: Serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) is an irreplaceable marker in the detection and follow-up of patients with prostate cancer. In our analysis we addressed factors that could indicate the likelihood of biochemical recurrence (BCR) early after radical prostatectomy. We mainly focused on the positive surgical margin (R1).

New trends in prostate cancer diagnostics.

The ever-increasing incidence of prostate cancer is driving research and clinicians efforts to manage the disease more precisely. Leaving aside the progress we are making in the field of prostate cancer treatment, we can notice the pressure on accurate diagnosis in everyday practice. We often meet patients who are in the so-called gray zone and we are not sure whether to indicate a prostate biopsy or continue to monitor the patient.
