Background: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare glandular malignancy, commonly originating in salivary glands of the head and neck. Given its protracted growth, ACC is usually diagnosed in advanced stage. Treatment of ACC is limited to surgery and/or adjuvant radiotherapy, which often fails to prevent disease recurrence, and no FDA-approved targeted therapies are currently available.

Numerous studies confirm the high degree of involvement of the intestinal microbiota in most processes in the human body. There is evidence for the effect of intestinal microbiota on the success of chemo and immunotherapy of oncological diseases. It is assumed that the intestinal microbiota exhibits an indirect effect on the antitumor therapy through such mechanisms as general immunomodulation, an increase in cells that specifically respond to antigens of both microbial and tumor origin, metabolism, degradation (utilization) of drug compounds.

Motivation: The resistance of bacterial pathogens to antibiotics is one of the most important issues of modern health care. The human microbiota can accumulate resistance determinants and transfer them to pathogenic microbiota by means of horizontal gene transfer. Thus, it is important to develop methods of prediction and monitoring of antibiotics resistance in human populations.
