International health regulations and pre-travel health practices of international travelers at Nigerian airport: a cross-sectional study.

Background: International Health Regulations (IHR) were developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to curb the trans-border spread of epidemics. To our knowledge, no airport-based studies have assessed travelers' health practices against a combination of diseases subject to IHR 2005. Therefore, we aimed to generate and describe the baseline travelers' pre-travel health practices towards Cholera, Yellow Fever (YF), and Plague at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Nigeria.

Trust in Physician Scale: factor structure, reliability, validity and correlates of trust in a sample of Nigerian psychiatric outpatients.

Background: Trust is essential in the patient-physician relationship and has not been explored among Nigerian psychiatric outpatients.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Trust in Physician Scale among a cross-sectional sample of stable Nigerian outpatients receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders.

Methods: A consecutive sample of outpatients attending a Nigerian university teaching hospital psychiatric clinic in South-western Nigeria completed the scale (N=223).

Caregiver burden in families of patients with depression attending Obafemi Awolowo University teaching hospitals complex Ile-Ife Nigeria.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess caregiver burden among relatives of patients on treatment for depressive disorder attending the psychiatry outpatient clinic of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile Ife, Nigeria.

Methods: A cross sectional design was used. Hundred caregivers of patients with ICD-10 diagnosis of depression, on outpatient treatment for at least six months were recruited from the psychiatric outpatient clinic.

A review of Quality of Life studies in Nigerian patients with psychiatric disorders.

The concept of Quality of Life is becoming an increasingly important measure of the impact of psychiatric disorders and is now recognized as useful in the healthcare evaluation of patients with psychiatric disorders. The aim of this review was to document and analyze the research data on quality of life in Nigerian patients with psychiatric disorders. The electronic databases, Medline and Pubmed were searched for published articles on quality of life in Nigerian patients with psychiatric disorders.

Sickle cell Nephropathy in children seen in an African Hospital - Case Report.

Aims And Objectives: To determine and report the occurrence of overt renal presentations in children with sickle cell disease seen over the last 14 years (1995-2009) at the Emergency Paediatric Unit and Paediatric Ward and followed up at the Paediatric Nephrology clinic of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin (UITH).

Patients And Methods: The five cases with overt renal presentations seen during the period were reported and analyzed for age, sex, and renal manifestations.

Results: The age range of the children was 9-15years with a mean of 11years.
