Neonicotinoid Pesticides in African Agriculture: What do we know and what should be the focus for future research?

This review provides a comprehensive overview of the direct and indirect effects of neonicotinoid pesticides (NEO-P) within African agricultural ecosystems and identifies research gaps, particularly in the monitoring and regulation of pesticide use. We observed a decline in the numbers of NEO-P studies conducted in Africa since 2019 with 40.7% of the countries reporting at least one study to date.

The effect of prolonged cold ischemia time on breast cancer biomarker expression after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Prolonged cold ischemia time (CIT) and neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) can each independently impact the expression of breast cancer-related biomarkers, but their combined effects are not well studied. Herein, we assessed whether prolonged CIT has a higher modulatory effect on post-NACT biomarker expression in breast cancer specimens than in otherwise similar but non-NACT specimens. Our study cohort included 334 biopsy/resection breast cancer specimen pairs in which immunohistochemistry (IHC for estrogen receptor [ER], progesterone receptor [PR], HER2) and HER2 FISH had been performed on both specimens.

Characterization of gastric/gastrointestinal-like immunophenotypes in endometrial endometrioid adenocarcinomas, including endometrioid adenocarcinomas with mucinous differentiation.

Endometrial mucinous carcinoma of the gastric [gastrointestinal] type (MCG) is a rare, possibly aggressive subtype of endometrial cancer that should be distinguished from its potential mimics, including endometrioid carcinoma (EEC). Herein, we assess the frequency of gastric and gastrointestinal immunophenotypes in EEC without any discernible gastric/gastrointestinal-type morphology. Immunohistochemical analyses for KRT(CK)7, KRT20, CDX2, ER, SATB2, MUC6, PAX8, and HIK1083 were performed on 81 EEC, inclusive of consecutively archived low grade [with (n = 22) and without (n = 47) mucinous differentiation] and high grade (n = 12) cases.

ERBB2/ERBB3-mutated S100/SOX10-positive uterine sarcoma: something new.

A distinctive subset of uterine mesenchymal tumors display recurrent genetic fusions involving receptor tyrosine kinases, including NTRK, PDGFB, FGFR1, and RET, presumably leading to aberrant pathway activation. A pair of recent studies have highlighted the existence of a genetic fusion-negative uterine sarcoma that is characterized by activating mutations in ERBB2/ERBB3, CDKN2A deletion, inactivating ATRX mutation, and a S100 + /SOX10 + immunohistochemical profile. This report describes another case of this emerging entity that was diagnosed in a 57-year-old woman.

Paying to publish: A cross-sectional analysis of article processing charges and journal characteristics among 87 pathology journals.

Article processing charges are increasingly being levied on authors via publication fees to provide open access to readers. These charges may impose challenges to early career physicians seeking to publish research but pathology journal article processing charges have not been investigated to date. We aimed to quantify pathology journal article processing charges and investigate the potential associated factors.
