The paper describes two devices (an intraoperative luminescence probe and a medical fiberoptic spectrofluorimeter) to be used for fluorimetry of visceral tissues in man and animals and presents the results of their use in experiments and clinical practice. The application spheres of lifetime fluorimetry in physiological studies are dealt with.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe Mallory-Weiss syndrome is often associated with acute ulceration of the gastric and duodenal mucosa, which gives grounds for a supposition of the existence of common mechanisms of pathogenesis of these diseases. Because of bad results of the operative treatment of patients with such combinations, the method of choice should be conservative therapy and curative endoscopy. A pathogenetically substantiated operative intervention--suturing the source of bleeding in combination with vagotomy and pyloroplasty is preferable when operation is inevitable.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA retrospective analysis has been made of 96 cases of acute erosions and peptic ulcer emerging in diffuse purulent peritonitis. The examination and treatment of 124 patients suggested that toxic peritonitis runs with excessive accumulation of lipid peroxidation products in the serum. Administration of antihypoxic drugs and antioxidants promoted stabilization of peroxidation thus preventing gastroduodenal erosions and ulcer.
