Impact of timing of urgent coronary artery bypass grafting following coronary angiography on acute kidney injury.

Objectives: Prior studies have examined the association between timing of cardiac surgery after coronary angiography with risk of acute kidney injury, but this remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between interval from coronary angiography to urgent coronary artery bypass grafting with acute kidney injury, and to examine this possible effect in patients with preexisting kidney disease.

Methods: Patients from a single institution undergoing urgent, isolated coronary artery bypass grafting within 7 days of coronary angiography were included.

Background: Coastal areas in Guinea-Bissau and elsewhere in West Africa are bordered by mangrove forests. In several of these places, swaths of mangrove forest have been removed and the landscape has been technologically adapted for the production of mangrove rice-a regionally important staple. However, the effects of global warming, in particular sea-level rise, pose challenges to these socioecological environments.

Natural Infections of Potato Plants Grown from Minitubers with Blackleg-Causing Soft Rot Pectobacteriaceae.

Information on the infection incidence of blackleg-causing soft rot Pectobacteriaceae (BL-SRP) in potato crops grown from minitubers (PB1-crop) and the distribution of BL-SRP in individual plants was collected during a two-year survey conducted at five potato growers located in the Netherlands. In the last weeks before haulm destruction, leaves, stems, and tubers of 100 or 200 plants were analyzed separately for the presence of , , , and spp. Extracted plant parts enriched for BL-SRP were analyzed with TaqMan assays specific for the detection of blackleg-causing BL-SRP.

Dietary administration of -ionone epoxide to Sprague-Dawley rats for 90 days.

In a 90-day GLP-compliant study groups of Sprague-Dawley rats (10/sex/group) were fed diets containing β-ionone epoxide, a fragrance material and a flavoring substance, at dietary concentrations providing target intakes of 0, 20, 40 and 80 mg/kg bw/day. There were no deaths and no adverse changes in clinical observations, ophthalmological examinations, body weight, body weight gain, food consumption, food efficiency; hematology, serum chemistry, urinalysis parameters; or in macroscopic findings attributable to β-ionone epoxide administration. Increased absolute and relative liver weights in high dose females without correlating hepatic histopathological findings were considered non-adverse.

Use of Both Fluoro-Jade B and Hematoxylin and Eosin to Detect Cell Death in the Juvenile Rat Brain Exposed to NMDA-Receptor Antagonists or GABA-Receptor Agonists in Safety Assessment.

Administration of pediatric anesthetics with N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA)-receptor antagonist and/or γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) agonist activities may result in neuronal degeneration and/or neuronal cell death in neonatal rats. Evaluating pediatric drug candidates for this potential neurotoxicity is often part of overall preclinical new drug development strategy. This specialized assessment may require dosing neonatal rats at postnatal day 7 at the peak of the brain growth spurt and evaluating brain tissue 24 to 48 hours following dosing.
