Unlabelled: In patients with glaucoma, the neuroplasticity of retinal cells, their axons and neuroglial elements is pathogenetically reduced, including due to a decrease in the concentration of neurotrophic factors. Coronavirus infections contribute to the damage processes, causing apoptosis of retinal and optic nerve cells. In this regard, the possibility of pharmacological stimulation of the production of these peptides through energy potentiation of the cell mitochondria function, reduction of oxidative stress severity and activation of interneuronal transduction system becomes relevant.

Immune-microbiota interaction in Finnish and Russian Karelia young people with high and low allergy prevalence.

Background: After the Second World War, the population living in the Karelian region was strictly divided by the "iron curtain" between Finland and Russia. This resulted in different lifestyle, standard of living, and exposure to the environment. Allergic manifestations and sensitization to common allergens have been much more common on the Finnish compared to the Russian side.

Significant disparities in allergy prevalence and microbiota between the young people in Finnish and Russian Karelia.

Background: Atopic allergy has been more common among schoolchildren in Finland, as compared to Russian Karelia. These adjacent regions show one of the most contrasting socio-economical differences in the world.

Objective: We explored changes in allergy from school age to young adulthood from 2003 to 2010/2012 in these two areas.

Hunt for the origin of allergy - comparing the Finnish and Russian Karelia.

The Finnish and Russian Karelia are adjacent areas in northern Europe, socio-economically distinct but geoclimatically similar. The Karelia Allergy Study was commenced in 1998 to characterize the allergy profiles in the two areas. Allergy prevalence had increased in Finland since the early 1960s, but the situation in Russia was unknown.
