Quantification of Anterior Chamber Cells in Children With Uveitis Using Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography.

Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility of anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) for measuring anterior chamber (AC) cells in children with uveitis and to compare different AS-OCT acquisition modes.

Design: Validity and reliability analysis.

Methods: We enrolled children younger than 18 years who had uveitis involving the anterior segment and children without eye disease as controls.

A school-based health and mindfulness curriculum improves children's objectively measured sleep: a prospective observational cohort study.

Study Objectives: Poor sleep impedes children's cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial development. Pediatric sleep dysregulation is common, and children who live in communities of low socioeconomic status experience additional risk factors for short sleep duration and poor sleep quality. School-based training in mindfulness and yoga-informed practices can improve children's behavior and well-being, but effects on objectively measured sleep are unknown.

Decreased Incidence of CSF Leaks after Skull Base Fractures in the 21st Century: An Institutional Report.

 Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks are a possible complication in patients with skull base fractures (SBFs). The widely cited incidence of CSF leaks is 10 to 30% in SBF patients; however, this estimate is based only on a few outdated studies. A recent report found CSF leaks in <2% SBF patients, suggesting the incidence may be lower now.

[Viability and germination of Hechtia perotensis (Bromeliaceae) seed].

Endemic populations of Hechtia perotensis have been described in Puebla and Veracruz, Mexico. Good quality seed collections can be used in conservation, research and ecological restoration. To evaluate seed quality of wild and endemic species, some compounds are used as effective promoters of germination, such as potassium nitrate (KNO3) and gibberellic acid (AG3), because they increase seed germination capacity and reduce latency.

In familial hypertriglyceridemia, a hyperlipidemia associated with type-2 diabetes, plasma accumulation of non atherogenic particles explains the presence of hypertriglyceridemia.
