Therapeutic potential of 5-aminolevulinic acid in metabolic disorders: Current insights and future directions.

5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is an essential compound in the biosynthesis of heme, playing a critical role in various physiological processes within the human body. This review provides the thorough analysis of the latest research on the molecular mechanisms and potential therapeutic benefits of 5-ALA in managing metabolic disorders. The ability of 5-ALA to influence immune response and inflammation, oxidative/nitrosative stress, antioxidant system, mitochondrial functions, as well as carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, is mediated by molecular mechanisms associated with the suppression of the transcription factor NF-κB signaling pathway, activation of the transcription factor Nrf2/heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) system leading to the formation of heme-derived reaction products (carbon monoxide, ferrous iron, biliverdin, and bilirubin), which may contribute to HO-1-dependent cytoprotection through antioxidant and immunomodulatory effects.

Disability trends among elderly Ukrainians in war conditions: a 10-year retrospective study.

Aim: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in elderly are a significant problem in Ukraine. It is expected that the ongoing war will augment this problem. The study aimed to analyze the trends of disability due to NCDs s in newly-diagnosed elderly patients between 2013 and 2023.

ACUTE MYOCARDITIS IN YOUNG AGE MIMICKING AS ST-ELEVATION MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION: CASE REPORT.

Acute myocarditis remains a diagnostic issue with a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations that could mimic ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We present a case of a 26-year-old male with left-sided intense squeezing chest pain associated with elevated troponin, ST-segment elevations, and reduced ejection fraction. The patient was initially suspected of having a STEMI with non-obstructed coronary arteries (MINOCA).

The Predictive Value of Serum Aldosterone Level for Coronary Artery Calcium Score in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease: A Single-center Study.

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have high cardiovascular risk (CVR), which is often underestimated by conventional tools. The coronary artery calcium score (CACS) significantly improves CVR stratification by conventional tools, but it is often not available in low-resources settings. Aldosterone may be a cheaper alternative to CACS for CVR assessment in CKD patients.
