Delivering non-communicable disease services through primary health care in selected south Asian countries: are health systems prepared?

In the south Asian region, delivering non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention and control services through existing primary health-care (PHC) facilities is urgently required yet currently challenging. As the first point of contact with the health-care system, PHC offers an ideal window for prevention and continuity of care over the life course, yet the implementation of PHC to address NCDs is insufficient. This review considers evidence from five south Asian countries to derive policy-relevant recommendations for designing integrated PHC systems that include NCD care.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Toe Secondary to a Traumatic Injury.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma-keratoacanthoma (cSCC-KA) is a benign but aggressive neoplasm arising from keratinizing epidermal cells. In this case, we report a 56-year-old man who developed a KA on the right second toe after experiencing a minor trauma to the same region, without osteolysis or nodal invasion. Second toe amputation was performed under sedation.

Rising pharmaceutical innovation in the Global South: a landscape study.

Background: There is growing interest in pharmaceutical innovation in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), but information on existing activities, capacities, and outcomes is scarce. We mapped available data at the global level, and studied the national pharmaceutical innovation systems of Bangladesh and Colombia to shed light on pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) in the Global South, including challenges and prospects, to help fill existing knowledge gaps.

Methods: We gathered and analyzed data from three types of sources: literature, semi-structured interviews with key informants, and publicly available data on R&D funding, R&D scientific capacity measured by human resources, and clinical trial activities.

Rare and Atypical Case of Turner Syndrome With Three Cell Lines.

Turner's syndrome is a rare complex genetic disease characterized by gonadal dysgenesis and sexual chromosomal abnormalities. Half of the patients affected are monosomic, for the X chromosome, and for the remaining patients, a variety of chromosomal abnormalities have been reported. Only a small percentage (3%-4%) of people with Turner syndrome have triple X cell line mosaicism (47, XXX).

Currently, algae arouse a growing interest in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic area due to the fact that they have a great diversity of bioactive compounds with the potential for pharmacological and nutraceutical applications. Due to lifestyle modifications brought on by rapid urbanization, diabetes mellitus, a metabolic illness, is the third largest cause of death globally. The hunt for an efficient natural-based antidiabetic therapy is crucial to battling diabetes and the associated consequences due to the unfavorable side effects of currently available antidiabetic medications.
