Chorioamnionitis generates prostaglandin (PG) E and F, promoting fetal membrane rupture, cervical ripening, and uterine contractions. 15-Hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (HPGD) contributes to pregnancy maintenance by inactivating PGs. Herein, the role of decidual cells in the regulation of HPGD expression at the maternal-fetal interface was investigated.

The adipose tissue is a main source of leptin, but during pregnancy, leptin is also secreted primarily by the placenta. Circulating leptin levels peak during the second trimester of human pregnancy and fall after labor.

Design: Laboratory based experimental study.
Setting: Academic hospital and laboratory.
