BODIPY (4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacenes) dyes possess intense absorption profiles that can be exploited in various light harvesting applications. However, redox stability and optimization of frontier molecular orbital energies in these dyes are critical for their successful incorporation into new solar cell materials. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of a family of β-substituted BODIPY-ferrocene dyads with push-pull architectures.

A new synthetic model of arginine-carboxylate-aromatic triads-common motifs at sites of protein-protein interactions-is reported. Binding studies in mixed methanol/water solvent systems suggest that the carboxylate-binding ability of pi-stacked guanidinium ions is improved relative to a non-stacked control.

Sera from Moscow residents of different ages were studied by the HI test for antibody to mumps virus. In newborn babies antibody was found in 94%. The number of subject possessing antibody decreased with age and was minimal among children of 3-4 years (40%) but then increased and reached 94% among adults (20 years or more).
