Using corticosteroids to treat sudden sensorineural hearing loss in pregnancy: A case report and literature review.

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) can manifest in pregnancy, but very few cases of SSNHL in pregnancy have been reported and none has been reported in the United States. Additionally, there are no established guidelines for how to treat SSNHL in pregnancy. The purpose of this report is to describe how SSNHL presents in pregnancy, to evaluate other etiologies and discuss current treatment options.

Objectives: Perforated jejunal diverticulitis (PJD) is rare, but it has high mortality rates. The role of nonsurgical management is debated. The aim of this study is to assess the outcomes of medical and surgical management of PJD.

Importance of the Moskowitz artery in the laparoscopic medial approach to splenic flexure mobilization: a cadaveric study.

Background: The medial approach in laparoscopic splenic flexure mobilization is based on the entrance to the lesser sac just above the ventral edge of the pancreas (VEOP). The artery of Moskowitz runs through the base of the mesocolon, just above the VEOP. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of the artery of Moskowitz, its route and its distance from the VEOP.

Mutation Spectrum in the CACNA1A Gene in 49 Patients with Episodic Ataxia.

Episodic ataxia is an autosomal dominant ion channel disorder characterized by episodes of imbalance and incoordination. The disease is genetically heterogeneous and is classified as episodic ataxia type 2 (EA2) when it is caused by a mutation in the CACNA1A gene, encoding the α subunit of the P/Q-type voltage-gated calcium channel Ca2.1.
