Background: Whole exome sequencing (WES) and whole genome sequencing (WGS) have become standard methods in human clinical diagnostics as well as in population genomics (POPGEN). Blood-derived genomic DNA (gDNA) is routinely used in the clinical environment. Conversely, many POPGEN studies and commercial tests benefit from easy saliva sampling.

Genomics of Preaxostyla Flagellates Illuminates the Path Towards the Loss of Mitochondria.

The notion that mitochondria cannot be lost was shattered with the report of an oxymonad Monocercomonoides exilis, the first eukaryote arguably without any mitochondrion. Yet, questions remain about whether this extends beyond the single species and how this transition took place. The Oxymonadida is a group of gut endobionts taxonomically housed in the Preaxostyla which also contains free-living flagellates of the genera Trimastix and Paratrimastix.

Permanent intravenous access in experimental surgery – our experience.

Introduction: Permanent intravenous access is usually required in pigs used for surgical experiments, not only to enable repeated blood sample collections. The aim of this study was to evaluate the patency and complications of vascular access ports (VAP) implanted in pigs included in different surgical experiments. Methods: VAPs were implanted via the external jugular vein in a total of 211 pigs from 7 different experiments.
