Introduction: We aimed to retrospectively evaluate the use of acetaminophen, which may be a risk factor for the ductal canal, in the treatment of fever due to prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) infusion in newborns with critical congenital heart disease (CCHD).

Methods: The study included newborns who were followed-up in our neonatal intensive care unit with the diagnosis of critical congenital heart disease, developed fever due to PGE1 infusion and had acetaminophen administered for antipyretic treatment. The patent ductus arteriosus diameters of the patients were evaluated by echocardiographic imaging before intravenous acetaminophen treatment and at the end of the day of acetaminophen treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Hip fractures in elderly patients lead to significant healthcare costs and mortality risk, with little information on preoperative markers predicting outcomes.
  • In a study of 180 elderly patients, the C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) was identified as a potential predictor for postoperative mortality, with a cutoff value of >0.15 showing a sensitivity of 74%.
  • The study concluded that higher preoperative CAR levels increase mortality risk, while timely surgery post-fracture can reduce mortality rates in elderly patients.

Upon reviewing the literature, we found no cases of balloon angioplasty for coarctation performed via the femoral vein in infants with a lower birth weight than in our case. Our aim is to underline that each patient may require individual evaluation and management options.
