In this study, cassava tubers cultivated in the Ewekoro cement area were investigated with the aid of Hyper Pure Germanium (HPGe) detector in order to assess the radionuclide content. Twenty-seven (27) samples of both arable soil and cassava tubers were studied at different sites to the epicenter of the mining activity. The results revealed the highest activity concentrations of K-40, Ra-226, and Th-232 to be 194.

Correct execution of civil engineering structures depends largely on the adequate and detailed mapping of the subsurface. This can be achieved by the application of appropriate geophysical or geotechnical methods in association with a detailed information on the geological sequence of the subsurface structure. In this study, a combination of near surface seismic refraction method, cone penetration test and borehole logs were used to obtain 2-dimensional (2D) information of the subsurface geological features.

Thirteen (13) types of building tiles and Sharp sand commonly used for building purposes were collected for their radionuclide contents analysis using gamma ray spectrometry. The average value of the Radium equivalent activity is 208.81 Bq/kg for all samples considered was found to be lower than the recommended safe limit of 370 Bq/kg.
