Effects of elevated temperature on the corrosion resistance of silver-cobalt oxide-titanium dioxide (Ag/CoO/TiO) nanocomposites coating on AISI 1020.

The effects of temperature on corrosion resistance of Silver-Cobalt oxide and Titanium Dioxide (Ag/CoO/TiO) nanocomposite coated AISI 1020 in a high-temperature environment was investigated. The Ag, CoO and TiO nanoparticles were individually produced by mixing the salt precursors with extract of Piptadeniastrum Africana leaf under the optimized synthesis conditions. The nanocomposite was produced by mixing Ag, CoO and TiO nanoparticles (NPs) in equal proportions to constitute 75 wt% of the composite.

Petroleum pipeline monitoring using an internet of things (IoT) platform.

In this study, we present the use of an internet of things (IoT) analytics platform service to mimic real-time pipeline monitoring and determine the location of damage on a pipeline. Pressure pulses, based on the principle of vibration in pipes are used for pipeline monitoring in this study. The principle of time delay between pulse arrivals at sensor positions is also adopted in this study.

Development and clinical assessment of new objective adherence markers for four microbicide delivery systems used in HIV prevention studies.

Background: Adherence is critical for successful topical, vaginally delivered anti-retroviral (ARV)-based HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Quantitating systemic or tissue ARV levels through LC-MS/MS is currently viewed as the most reliable measure of adherence. However, for placebo-controlled trials, this is a high cost analysis that measures adherence only in the drug treatment group.

Use of contraceptive depot medroxyprogesterone acetate is associated with impaired cervicovaginal mucosal integrity.

Background: Injectable depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) is one of the most popular contraception methods in areas of high HIV seroprevalence. Evidence is accumulating that use of DMPA might be associated with an increased risk of HIV-1 acquisition by women; however, mechanisms of this association are not completely understood. The goal of this study was to gain insight into mechanisms underlying the possible link between use of DMPA and risk of HIV-1 acquisition, exploring transcription profiling of ectocervical tissues.
