This article deals with the bibliographic information relating to the Saratov period of life of Alexander Nikolayevich Bakulev, his scientific and practical activity at the Department of Hospital Surgery of the Saratov Medical University under the leadership of the Department's founder, Sergey Ivanovich Spasokukotsky having exerted the key influence on the formation of A.N. Bakulev as a surgeon and scientist.

[Prospective comparative study of remote results of surgical treatment of patients with varicothrombophlebitis].

The authors examined the effect of the presence of undifferentiated connective tissue dysplasia (UCTD) on the clinical course of lower-limb varicose veins (LLVV) and acute varicothrombophlebitis (AVTP) in patients after the Troyanov-Trendelenburg operation. We carried out a prospective comparative study of the remote results during three years after the Troyanov-Trendelenburg operation in a total of 132 patients suffering from AVTP. The Study Group included 67 patients found to have more than four phenotypic traits of UCTD, thus suggesting the presence of UCTD.

Morphologic changes in the vein after different numbers of radiofrequency ablation cycles.

Objective: It has not yet been clarified whether it is possible to decrease the percentage of recurrences after radiofrequency (RF) ablation by way of increasing the number of RF ablation cycles. The aim of this study was to assess the morphologic changes in excised vein fragments after different durations of RF ablation exposure.

Methods: In the first part of the study, we performed a morphologic analysis of eight cases of great saphenous vein (GSV) recanalization 6 months after RF ablation.

[Open thrombectomy in treatment of acute thromboses of lower-limb deep veins].

Thrombosis of lower-limb deep veins is one of the most common vascular diseases in the world. For a long time the generally accepted treatment policy was conservative therapy with anticoagulants. The article is a review of the literature containing the results of studies carried out over the past two decades and confirming efficacy of surgical treatment for acute venous thrombosis.

[Endovenous laser obliteration and combined phlebectomy for treatment of varicose veins in elderly and senile patients].

In the available literature, we have found no comparative data on the efficiency and safety of endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) and traditional phlebectomy in elderly and senile patients. According to our results, in elderly and senile patients, the pain syndrome is much less pronounced after EVLA as compared with phlebectomy, the frequency of ecchymosis with an area of more than 100 cm2 and distal thrombosis of deep veins is lower. In the analyzed groups, there are no significant differences in the frequency of post-surgical complications after surgical intervention.
