The present work introduces and validates an artificial cell free system for the synthesis of acetoin from ethanol, representing a greener alternative to conventional chemical synthesis. The one pot multi-enzymatic system, which employs pyruvate decarboxylase from Zymobacter palmae (ZpPDC), alcohol dehydrogenase from Saccharomyces cerevisiae (ScADH), and NADH oxidase from Streptococcus pyogenes (SpNOX), achieves nearly 100 % substrate conversion and reaction yield within 6 h under optimal conditions (pH 7.5, enzyme activities: ZpPDC 100 U·mL, ScADH 50 U·mL, SpNOX 127 U·mL, and 1 mM NAD).

Background: Impulsive aggression is the core symptom of intermittent explosive disorder, which can be a feature of several psychiatric disorders. There is a subset of individuals who do not respond adequately to medical treatment; they are treatment refractory. The objective of this report is to describe a case of a patient with a background of schizophrenia and concomitant refractory aggressiveness disorder, treated with two-stage bilateral hypothalamotomy and unilateral amygdalotomy with Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKR).

We previously found that expression levels of DSTYK, a poorly explored dual serine/threonine and tyrosine kinase frequently amplified in cancer, identified patients with lung cancer exhibiting poor response to immune checkpoint inhibitors, and found that its inhibition sensitizes to immunotherapy. Seeking to explore the potential of DSTYK targeting in additional indications, we investigated the functional relevance and actionability of DSTYK in lung cancer chemoresistance.
