Association between serum chlamydial antibody levels and tubal infertility in tertiary health facility in South-East Nigeria: a case-control study.

Objectives: This study evaluates the association between genital Chlamydial infection and tubal factor infertility in a tertiary health facility in South-East Nigeria.

Design: This was a case-control analytical study.

Setting: Gynaecology Clinic and Maternity Unit of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria.

Serum selenium levels of pre-eclamptic and normal pregnant women in Nigeria: A comparative study.

Introduction: Trace element selenium, an antioxidant, and peroxynitrite scavenger when incorporated into selenoproteins and enzymes reduce oxidative stress which is implicated in the aetiopathogenesis of pre-eclampsia. A paucity of information exists on the serum selenium levels among pre-eclamptic pregnant women in Nigeria, hence the need for this study.

Objective: To compare mean serum selenium levels and prevalence of selenium deficiency in preeclamptic pregnant women and their normotensive pregnant controls.

Cassava whitefly species in eastern Nigeria and the threat of vector-borne pandemics from East and Central Africa.

Bemisia tabaci (sensu latu) is a group of >40 highly cryptic whitefly species that are of global agricultural importance, both as crop pests and plant-virus vectors. Two devastating cassava diseases in East and Central Africa are spread by abundant populations of one of these species termed Sub-Saharan Africa 1 (SSA1). There is a substantive risk that these whitefly-borne pandemics will continue to spread westwards and disrupt cassava production for millions of smallholder farmers in West Africa.

Combined insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1/interleukin-6 (Premaquick) versus fetal fibronectin for predicting preterm delivery among women with preterm contractions.

Objectives: To compare accuracy between Premaquick (combined test for native insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1), total IGFBP-1, and interleukin-6) and fetal fibronectin (Ffn) in predicting preterm delivery.

Methods: Prospective study among women at 28-36 gestational weeks with threatened preterm labor attending Federal Medical Center, Owerri, Nigeria, from August 2017 to February 2019. Cervico-vaginal fluids were collected and tested by Premaquick and Ffn tests.
