The phytochemical profiling, pharmacological activities, and safety of malva sylvestris: a review.

Malva sylvestris is a plant commonly found in Europe, Asia, and Africa. The leaves and flowers of this plant have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat various ailments such as cough, cold, diarrhoea, and constipation. Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were used to search for relevant material on the phytochemical profiling and pharmacologic activities of Malva sylvestris.

Asymptomatic malaria and intestinal helminth co-infection among children in a rural community in Southwest Nigeria.

Background: Malaria is prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa, where other concomitant parasitic infections, including intestinal helminths, are common. However, little is known about how concurrent infections affect the expression or pathogenesis of each other. This study aimed to document the prevalence rates of malaria and intestinal helminths individually and as co-infection among asymptomatic children in a rural community in southwest Nigeria.

Strongyloidiasis: prevalence, risk factors, clinical and laboratory features among diarrhea patients in Ibadan Nigeria.

Strongyloidiasis is a parasitic infection caused by Strongyloides stercoralis. The infection is usually mild or asymptomatic in normal immunocompetent individuals, but could be very severe or even fatal due to hyper infection in individuals who are immunosuppressed. This study aimed at determining the prevalence, risk factors and features of strongyloidiasis among diarrhea patients in Ibadan.

Cutaneous myiasis presenting as chronic furunculosis--case report.

Myiasis is the infection of tissue or organ of living humans or animals by the maggot or larval stages of flies. In Africa, the most common fly responsible for cutaneous myiasis is the tumbu fly, Cordylobia anthropophaga. We present two cases of cutaneous myiasis seen on the upper abdominal wall and anterior chest wall.

Gastrodiscoides hominis infection in a Nigerian-case report.

Gastrodiscoides hominis is a large fluke of pig and human and constitutes an important parasite of human in Assam, Indian, the Philippines and Southeast Asia. This parasite has not been reported in Nigeria and possibly other parts of Africa. This is a case report of a seven year old Nigerian child who presented with features of malnutrition and anaemia and was found to have Gastrodiscoides hominis and Ascaris lumbricoides.
