Vertical growth pattern as a determinant of mandibular asymmetry.

Objectives: To determine normal mandibular linear values in three vertical groups, to compare right and left side to highlight a prevalent pattern towards mandibular asymettry.

Methods: This is a descriptive cross sectional study in which pre-orthodontic treatment panoramic radiographs and lateral cephalograms of 224 patients (between 18 to 34 years) undergoing treatment in Orthodontic Department of Bahria University Medical and Dental College were used and traced on an acetate sheet. There were 74 patients in high angle,76 and 78 in low angle and normal angle group respectively based on their vertical growth pattern using SNMP angle.

Mean platelet volume and platelet counts in type 2 diabetes: mellitus on treatment and non-diabetic mellitus controls in Lagos, Nigeria.

Introduction: The Mean platelet volume and platelet counts are indicators of thrombotic potentials, and risk factors for microvascular complications in diabetics. This study aimed to establish variations in platelet counts and mean platelet volume in type 2 diabetic patients on treatment and non-diabetic controls.

Methods: This was an unmatched case-control study involving 200 participants consisting of 100 diabetics and 100 non-diabetic controls.

Polyvisceral echinococcosis with involvement of the heart and chest wall: follow-up and review of literature.

Echinococcosis remains an endemic surgical problem in countries where sheep and cattle raising is carried out, particularly in many Mediterranean countries. The life cycle of echinococcosis is usually marked by the filtration of larvae through the liver and lungs which are the organs most commonly affected by a hydatid cyst. Hydatid cysts in other sites are not common.

Management of thymoma. A retrospective study.

Thymoma is a relatively rare tumour. Twelve cases seen in Kuwait Cancer Control Centre over a period of 10 years were analyzed. Two patients had Myasthenia gravis at presentation, and one developed it after the treatment, during remission.
