Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic immune inflammatory condition of the colon with an unknown aetiology, leading to disability and reduced quality of life of patients. UC primarily affects young adults. In most cases, inflammatory bowel disease (iBD) debuts at reproductive age.

[Gastroesophageal reflux disease: pathogenesis and morbid anatomy].

By analyzing the current data available in the literature, the authors consider the pathogenesis and morbid anatomy of gastroesophageal reflux disease. They assess the role of the anatomic and physiological features of the esophagogastric transition in the development of reflux-esophagitis and its complications. The principles of morphological diagnosis are considered in the interpretation of esophageal biopsy in reflux-esophagitis and Barrett's esophagus.

[Clinicomorphological diagnosis and surgical treatment of complicated gastroesophageal reflux disease].

Biopsy and surgery specimens taken from 224 patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease were clinically and morphologically analyzed. The morphological diagnosis of this condition is of more informative value than endoscopy and X-ray study. Malignization occurs in 25% of patients with Barrett oesophagus.

[Wound healing process differences in type I and type II diabetes mellitus].

In 88 patients with purulent wounds in diabetes mellitus the course of wound healing was studied depending on the type of the disease. Clinical and morphological distinctions of the wound process in type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus were revealed.
