IP delivery of iMSN functionalized with the Toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists polyethyleneimine (PEI), CpG oligonucleotide, and monophosphoryl lipid A (MPLA) stimulated rapid uptake by all peritoneal myeloid subsets. Myeloid cells quickly transported iMSN to milky spots and fat-associated lymphoid clusters (FALCs) present in tumor-burdened adipose tissues, leading to a reduction in suppressive T cells and an increase in activated memory T cells.

Objectives: Ineffective nurse-to-nurse handoff communication is associated with information omissions, diagnostic errors, treatment errors, and delays. New nurses report a lack of confidence and ability in handoff communication, which may stem from inadequate training in prelicensure nursing programs. Our objective was to introduce prelicensure nursing students to a standardized, theory-based method for handoff, including behavioral strategies employed by nurses during interrupted handoff.

Background And Aims: Gastric varices (GVs) are reported in up to 20% of patients with portal hypertension, and bleeding is often more severe and challenging than esophageal variceal bleeding. Data are limited on prophylaxis of GV bleeding or management in the acute setting, and different techniques are used. This study evaluated outcomes after EUS-guided placement of coils in combination with thrombin to manage GVs.

Purpose: The purpose was to assess the feasibility and acceptability of (1) an education bundle that included an interruption management strategy and (2) simulated scenarios with embedded interruptions and distractions.

Purpose: To explore medications and their administration patterns in real-world patients with breast cancer.

Methods: A retrospective study was performed using TriNetX, a federated network of deidentified, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant data from 21 health care organizations across North America. Patients diagnosed with breast cancer between January 1, 2013, and May 31, 2022, were included.

Street soccer and homelessness: Exploring social identities, health, and well-being.

Membership in social and physical activity groups has the potential to help people with a range of physical and mental health challenges. The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of members of a unique physical activity group: people who were formerly or currently homeless participating in a street soccer program in Western Canada. Ten participants in the Vancouver Street Soccer League (VSSL) were interviewed about the extent to which this program fostered a sense of community, social connectivity, and quality of life among people with experience of homelessness.

Effectiveness of testing, contact tracing and isolation interventions among the general population on reducing transmission of SARS-CoV-2: a systematic review.

We conducted a systematic literature review of general population testing, contact tracing, case isolation and contact quarantine interventions to assess their effectiveness in reducing SARS-CoV-2 transmission, as implemented in real-world settings. We designed a broad search strategy and aimed to identify peer-reviewed studies of any design provided there was a quantitative measure of effectiveness on a transmission outcome. Studies that assessed the effect of testing or diagnosis on disease outcomes via treatment, but did not assess a transmission outcome, were not included.

Background And Aims: Bleeding from parastomal varices causes significant morbidity and mortality. Treatment options are limited, particularly in high-risk patients with significant underlying liver disease and other comorbidities. The use of EUS-guided embolisation coils combined with thrombin injection in gastric varices has been shown to be safe and effective.

Background: Procedural failures during medication administration include a lack of appropriate hand hygiene and failure to verify patient identification prior to administration of medication. Procedural failures are common among nurses and nursing students and can lead to serious patient harm.

Method: A descriptive cross-sectional research design was used to collect observational data from a simulation-based experience of a medication administration scenario.

Innovative Projects: A Unique Approach to Telehealth Education.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth utilization grew astronomically, encouraging more institutions of higher education to become innovative and proactive in preparing health care providers to deliver high-quality telehealth care. Telehealth can be creatively implemented throughout health care curricula given the appropriate guidance and tools. This article speaks to the development of student telehealth projects as part of the work of a national taskforce funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration and charged with the development of a telehealth toolkit.

Association of external interruptions with increased medication administration duration and self-interruptions: A direct observational study: Empirical research quantitative.

Aims: To examine task duration and frequency of self-interruptions among study participants during externally interrupted compared with externally uninterrupted simulated medication administration.

Background: Interruptions are prevalent during nursing medication administration and can lead to inefficient, delayed, omitted and unsafe patient care. Interrupted nursing tasks are shown to take longer to complete compared to uninterrupted tasks; however, studies seldom indicate if the time spent in the interruption was included or excluded in the reported task duration.

Tracheostomy insertion in COVID-19: insertion practice and factors leading to unplanned tube exchange.

Background: Tracheostomy insertion in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) presents unique challenges. Patients frequently have high ventilatory requirements, and as an aerosol generating procedure, tracheostomy insertion creates the potential for staff transmission. Problems with tracheostomies contribute to morbidity and mortality, and tracheostomy changes may increase risks of staff transmission.
