Background: Recommencement of oral anticoagulation (OAC) for patients post-intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) remains a challenging decision for clinicians. High-quality evidence to assist with this decision is lacking and current guidelines primarily focus on balancing thromboembolic and bleeding risk.

Objective: This study evaluated the literature and current guidelines for recommencement of OAC in patients who have experienced an incident ICH.

Introduction: The present study sought to examine the relationships between systemic inflammatory composite ratios/cumulative scores, magnitude of systemic inflammatory response (SIR) and survival in good performance status patients (ECOG-PS 0/1) with advanced NSCLC receiving palliative radiotherapy.

Methods: Systemic inflammatory composite ratios/cumulative scores included the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-monocyte ratio (LMR), C-reactive protein, (CRP)-albumin ratio (CAR), neutrophil- lymphocyte score (NLS), platelet-lymphocyte score (PLS), lymphocyte-monocyte score (LMS), neutrophil-platelet score (NPS), modified Glasgow prognostic score (mGPS). The magnitude of SIR was determined by serum CRP concentration, with a median CRP concentration of >10 m mg/L considered to be systemically inflamed.

Employees are entitled to work in an environment that upholds their dignity and respect, but bullying still exists in many disciplines, including in nurse education and nursing practice. Researchers have suggested that to address bullying employers need to intervene at team and/or organisational level rather than focusing solely on the individuals involved. To reduce the incidence of bullying and other adverse social behaviours in the workplace, many higher education institutions and healthcare organisations have developed dignity and respect (D&R) policies.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) antibodies are an excellent indicator of past COVID-19 infection. As the COVID-19 pandemic progresses, retained sensitivity over time is an important quality in an antibody assay that is to be used for the purpose of population seroprevalence studies. We compared 5,788 health care worker (HCW) serum samples by using two serological assays (Abbott SARS-CoV-2 anti-nucleocapsid immunoglobulin G (IgG) and Roche anti-SARS-CoV-2 anti-nucleocapsid total antibody) and a subset of samples (all Abbott assay positive or grayzone,  = 485) on Wantai SARS-CoV-2 anti-spike antibody enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Aims Since its emergence, significant interest surrounds the use of SARS-CoV-2 serological tests as an alternative or as an adjunct to molecular testing. However, given the speed of this pandemic, paralleled with the pressure to develop and provide serological tests in an expediated manner, not every assay has undergone the rigorous evaluation that is usually associated with medical diagnostic assays. We aimed to examine the performance of several commercially available SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody assays among participants with confirmed COVID-19 disease and negative controls.

Article Synopsis
  • A study found that using a higher dose of tenecteplase (0.40 mg/kg) for patients with ischemic stroke significantly improves blood flow before thrombectomy compared to a lower dose (0.25 mg/kg).
  • Conducted as a randomized clinical trial across 27 hospitals in Australia and 1 in New Zealand, the research involved 300 patients who had large vessel occlusion strokes and were treated within 4.5 hours of symptom onset.
  • Key results showed that a larger percentage of patients experienced more than 50% reperfusion of the affected area before undergoing thrombectomy, along with various outcomes related to disability

Adult stem and progenitor cells possess unique qualities of proliferative capacity and phenotypic plasticity making their potential interactions with pathogenic and commensal bacteria a significant factor in health and disease. This interaction may result in the hindrance of regenerative capacity and degenerative disease. In other contexts, bacterial-stem cell cross-talk plays an important role in regulating stem cell renewal and maintaining homeostasis.

Background: Patients with contact to healthcare-system in high-prevalence countries (HPC) and refugee patients in hospital settings (REF) have previously been identified to be at risk of carrying multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO). Comparative studies addressing the epidemiology of MDRO in patients transferred from hospitals abroad (ABROAD) and REF are lacking but are necessary to introduce refined infection control measures.

Methods: From December 2015 to June 2016, 117 REF, 84 ABROAD and 495 patients admitted to intensive care unit, with no refugee history or pre-treatment abroad (ICU), at University Hospital Frankfurt, Germany (UHF) were screened for MDRO on day of admittance.

Infectious diseases remain a remarkable health threat for humans and animals. In the past, the epidemiology, etiology and pathology of infectious agents affecting humans and animals have mostly been investigated in separate studies. However, it is evident, that combined approaches are needed to understand geographical distribution, transmission and infection biology of "zoonotic agents".

The contribution of myeloid cells to tumour microenvironments is a decisive factor in cancer progression. Tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs) mediate tumour invasion and angiogenesis through matrix remodelling, immune modulation and release of pro-angiogenic cytokines. Nothing is known about how pathogenic bacteria affect myeloid cells in these processes.
