Milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) proteins are receiving increased attention due to their reported benefits for human health, particularly in infant populations. Challenges exist in MFGM protein quantification due to their low quantities, complex chemistry, interactions with other matrix components, and the high matrix complexity. Analytic morphomics refers to the accurate measurement of specific biological markers of human body composition in diagnostic medical imaging. The increasing prevalence of disease processes that alter body composition including obesity, cachexia, and sarcopenia has generated interest in specific targeted measurement of these metrics to possibly prevent or reduce negative health outcomes. Infants were provided weekly tactile stimulation on eight body locations from 4 to 8 months of age (N = 11), comparing their ability to reach to the body to infants in a control group who did not receive stimulation (N = 10). Infants who received stimulation were more likely to successfully reach targets on the body than controls by 7 months of age.

OPN is present at low quantities in bovine milk and its derived ingredients, and there is a need for an accurate quantitative method in complex matrixes such as IF and growing-up milks (GUMs).
Objective: The objective of this work was to validate a method to quantify OPN in several dairy powders produced from bovine milk, including skimmed milk powder (SMP), whey protein concentrate (WPC), demineralized WPC and α-lactalbumin-enriched WPC (α-lac WPC).
