The successful design of solid-state photo- and electrochemical devices depends on the careful engineering of point defects in solid-state ion conductors. Characterization of point defects is critical to these efforts, but the best-developed techniques are difficult and time-consuming. Raman spectroscopy─with its exceptional speed, flexibility, and accessibility─is a promising alternative.

However, a shortage of robust material design principles still stands in the way of widespread commercial adoption of exsolution. Working with Ni-doped SrTiO solid solutions, we investigated how the introduction of Sr deficiency as well as Ca, Ba, and La doping on the Sr site changed the size and surface density of exsolved Ni nanoparticles.

CRA focuses on abstinence; however, abstinence is not a desired goal among all people who use substances. Previous research has called for harm reduction-oriented treatment programs, especially within hospital settings.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Hospital-based harm reduction services are needed to reduce drug-related harms, facilitate retention in care, and increase medical treatment adherence for people who use drugs. Philanthropic donor support plays a key role in delivering such innovative services which might fall outside current funding streams. However, little is known about how the principles, implementation, and practice of harm reduction services, which are often highly stigmatized, may impact donor behaviours.

Though promising, the major hurdle for their industrial fabrication is their device-to-device and cycle-to-cycle variability. These occur due to the random nature of nanoionic conductive filaments, whose rupture and formation govern device operation.

One population for which previous research has shown this pattern is Vietnam in-country veterans with PTSD. This study assessed the F-K index on 515 inpatients: 329 Vietnam in-country and 186 Vietnam-era patients.

These included the MMPI, VETS Adjustment Scale, State-Trait Anxiety Scale, Rotter Locus of Control, Profile of Mood Scale, and a variation of the Figley Stress Scale that measures current stress. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was determined by the MMPI-PTSD subscale.

Cultures obtained from the distal end of the mucus column after spermatozoal migration was complete yielded the same aerobic and anaerobic microbial isolates that were originally recovered from the seminal fluid. Exogenous aerobic bacteria added to the seminal fluid.

These animals were specially prepared surgically so that intrauterine samples could be taken aseptically and percutaneously rather than transvaginally. While the insertion and presence of any of the IUD assemblies used in this study could promote intrauterine bacteria, the principal determining factor was not the device itself, but rather retrieval tail.

Samples positive for ureaplasmas (but negative for large-colony mycoplasmas) were washed and stained with a DNA-binding fluorochrome (Hoechst No. 33258) and examined by fluorescence microscopy.

Semen quality was also analyzed in 9 men who were unsuccessfully treated for genital Ureaplasma infection, 11 men who had negative cultures and received no treatment, and 11 men who had negative cultures but received empirical antibiotic therapy. A significant improvement in spermatozoal motility (both the speed of forward progession and the percentage of motile cells) was found in the group that was successfully treated for Ureaplasma infection.

The mean number of different species isolated from each baboon was 9.5, with species of Bacteroides, Corynebacterium and group D streptococci predominating.

The potential role of Ureaplasma urealyticum in human infertility make it desirable to screen barren couples for this infection. Semen specimens from 96 consecutive patients were evaluated in our clinic. Microbiologic results were correlated with the percentage of coiled and fuzzy tails in seminal cytology.

Lipids of antibiotic-resistant and related -susceptible strains of the Enterobacteriaceae were extracted with chloroform-methanol and characterized by thin-layer chromatography, densitometry, and fatty acid analysis using gas chromatography. Quantitative differences which correlated with antibiotic resistance existed among the phospholipids and fatty acids. A relatively higher concentration of a ninhydrin-positive phospholipid concentration with a lower amount of phosphatidylethanolamine was observed in antibiotic-resistant strains of serratia marcescens.
