In this paper, we address the problem of object recognition in degraded environments including fog and partial occlusion. Both long wave infrared (LWIR) imaging systems and LiDAR (time of flight) imaging systems using Azure Kinect, which combine conventional visible and lidar sensing information, have been previously demonstrated for object recognition in ideal conditions. However, the object detection performance of Azure Kinect depth imaging systems may decrease significantly in adverse weather conditions such as fog, rain, and snow.

Background: Whereas the maternal 'blues' has been widely researched, comparatively less is known about the "highs" following childbirth, and the relation between mothers and fathers' mood in this early period. We aimed to investigate the association between maternal 'blues' and 'highs' with paternal postpartum mood (here described as 'lows' and 'highs') in the early postpartum and their associations with the quality of child bonding.

Methods: Women and their cohabitating male partners, fathers of the index child (N = 98 couples), attending an obstetric hospital unit completed questionnaires on mood, bonding and socio-demographics between the 3rd and the 5th postpartum day.

Introduction: There is increasing interest in measuring metals concentrations in human placentas to better understand physiology, disease, and toxic and diagnostic exposures. For these purposes, formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissues obtained at clinical pathology examination represent a valuable potential store of well-characterized tissues for analysis. However, the limited data that exist comparing metal concentrations in FFPE tissue to recently collected frozen tissues paints a confusing picture, and there is no published data directly comparing frozen and FFPE placental villus tissues.

A quantitative quasi-experimental observational approach was used. A total of 149 at risk acute hospital patients took part, 78 treatment, and 71 control.

This study examines the association between the parenting styles of mothers and fathers and the risk of overweight/obesity among Costa Rican adolescents. Data are cross-sectional from a sample of adolescents (13-18 years old) enrolled in ten urban and eight rural schools ( = 18) in the province of San José, Costa Rica, in 2017.

We present an automated method for COVID-19 screening using the intra-patient population distributions of bio-optical attributes extracted from digital holographic microscopy reconstructed red blood cells. Whereas previous approaches have aimed to identify infection by classifying individual cells, here, we propose an approach to incorporate the attribute distribution information from the population of a given human subjects' cells into our classification scheme and directly classify subjects at the patient level. We present a compact, field portable, lensless, single random phase encoding biosensor for automated classification between healthy and sickle cell disease human red blood cells. Microscope slides containing 3 µl wet mounts of whole blood samples from healthy and sickle cell disease afflicted human donors are input into a lensless single random phase encoding (SRPE) system for disease identification. A partially coherent laser source (laser diode) illuminates the cells under inspection wherein the object complex amplitude propagates to and is pseudorandomly encoded by a diffuser, then the intensity of the diffracted complex waveform is captured by a CMOS image sensor.
