Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide, with a substantial proportion of the asthma population being children and adolescents. Self-management is recognized as a key component to asthma management, with multiple international guidelines emphasizing the need for adequate self-management skills for good asthma control. Unfortunately, the uptake amongst young people and adolescents is low, with often suboptimal engagement to self-management education and skills contributing to poor adherence to medication as well as poor perception of asthma symptoms.

Visual short-term memory (VSTM) deficits including VSTM binding have been associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) from preclinical to dementia stages, cross-sectionally. Pyoderma Gangrenosum: A Literature Review.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG), which most frequently affects the lower extremity, is a complicated disease state that results from a combination of inflammation, neutrophilic invasion, and genetic predisposition. There may also be certain comorbidities involved or it may be idiopathic. The many variations of PG mean that it often presents and responds differently to various treatments based on the specific case.

Benefit-risk assessment and reporting in clinical trials of chronic pain treatments: IMMPACT recommendations.

Chronic pain clinical trials have historically assessed benefit and risk outcomes separately. However, a growing body of research suggests that a composite metric that accounts for benefit and risk in relation to each other can provide valuable insights into the effects of different treatments. Researchers and regulators have developed a variety of benefit-risk composite metrics, although the extent to which these methods apply to randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of chronic pain has not been evaluated in the published literature.

A feedback journey: employing a constructivist approach to the development of feedback literacy among health professional learners.

Background: Feedback, if effectively provided by the teacher and utilised by the learner, enables improvement in academic performance. It is clear from current literature that the provision of feedback by teachers is not sufficient on its own to guarantee improvements as early university entrants may not be sufficiently equipped to effectively engage with feedback. Nonetheless, it is critical for health professional students to develop feedback literacy early, in order to prepare them for a professional career of lifelong learning and critical thinking.

A review of simulation training and new 3D computer-generated synthetic organs for robotic surgery education.

We conducted a comprehensive review of surgical simulation models used in robotic surgery education. We present an assessment of the validity and cost-effectiveness of virtual and augmented reality simulation, animal, cadaver and synthetic organ models. Face, content, construct, concurrent and predictive validity criteria were applied to each simulation model.

Completeness of reporting of systematic reviews in the animal health literature: A meta-research study.

Systematic reviews are a valuable tool for evaluating the efficacy of interventions and for quantifying associations. To be properly assessed, reviews must be comprehensively reported. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the completeness of reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses in animal health.

Despite the strong association between poor motility and infertility, the kinetics of sperm tail movement and the role individual proteins play in this process is poorly understood. Here, we use a high spatiotemporal sperm imaging system and an analysis protocol to define the role of CRISPs in the mechanobiology of sperm function.

A systematic review of humour-based strategies for addressing public health priorities.

Objective: To systematically review research into the use of humour-based health promotion strategies for addressing public health issues during the past 10 years.

Method: The systematic review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.

15-Deoxy-Δ--prostaglandin J2 (15d-PGJ2) is an endogenous agonist of the ligand dependent transcriptional factor, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor -gamma (PPAR-γ). Although PPAR-γ mediates some actions of 15d-PGJ2, many actions of 15d-PGJ2 are independent of PPAR-γ. The PPAR-γ signaling pathway has beneficial effects on tumor progression, inflammation, oxidative stress, and angiogenesis in numerous studies.

The Accuracy of GP Referrals into Manchester Royal Eye Hospital Orthoptic Department.

Background: There is little research that examines the accuracy of paediatric referrals into secondary and tertiary care, particularly those from general practicioners (GPs) to ophthalmology and orthoptic departments. Inaccurate referrals could have a detrimental effect on service delivery and NHS funding as well as patient experience. Available evidence shows GP referral accuracy to range between 39% and 90% across different areas of medicine with accuracy of GP referral to ophthalmology between 56% and 66%.

Can adults discriminate between fraudulent and legitimate e-mails? Examining the role of age and prior fraud experience.

The present study assessed how accurate adults are at detecting fraudulent e-mail activity. A total of 100 younger (18-26 years) and 96 older adults (60-90 years) categorized a series of e-mails as legitimate or fraudulent phishing schemes and self-reported their fraud experiences. Younger and older adults did not differ in accuracy rates when categorizing the e-mails (72%), but older adults used a "high-suspicion" strategy where they were more likely to mislabel a legitimate e-mail as fraudulent compared to younger adults.

Introduction: Stigma is a barrier to accessing treatment and support services for individuals with substance use disorder. Stigma is negatively associated with completion of treatment for substance use disorder and management of recovery.

Objective: To learn from individuals in recovery from opioid use disorder in a largely rural area about how their personal experiences of stigma affected their ability to enter into treatment and stay in recovery.

Colon capsule endoscopy is a viable alternative to colonoscopy for the investigation of intermediate- and low-risk patients with gastrointestinal symptoms: results of a pilot study.

Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) is a recommended viable alternative to colonoscopy for colonic visualisation in a variety of clinical settings with proven efficacy in polyp detection, surveillance, screening and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) assessment. CCE efficacy in an unselected average risk symptomatic cohort has yet to be established. The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of CCE imaging assessment in average risk symptomatic patients as an alternative to colonoscopy with and without additional biomarker assessment.

In this article, the authors summarize the future needs from a research perspective to make the greatest gains. They discuss the areas of research: diagnosis, epidemiology, economic impact, prevention, and treatment. In some areas, simple studies with little cost could be conducted that would quickly add to the evidence base.
