Despite an opportunity to prevent adult psychopathology associated with bipolar disorder through early diagnosis in children, there is insufficient information and awareness among healthcare providers about the unique features and treatment of mania and its comorbid conditions in children. Converging evidence from disparate sites describe a developmentally distinct presentation of bipolar disorder in youth that is highly morbid, persistent and responds to treatment with the mood stabilizer medications used in the treatment of adult bipolar disorder, such as divalproex sodium and carbamazepine. Some are additionally approved for use in pediatric populations including, for manic or mixed states, risperidone, aripiprazole, and asenapine for those aged 10-17 years and also including lithium and olanzapine for ages 13-17 years.

Consciousness has intrigued philosophers and scholars for millennia and has been the topic of considerable scientific investigation in recent decades. Despite its importance, there is no unifying definition of the term, nor are there widely accepted measures of consciousness. Indeed, it is likely that consciousness-by its very nature-eludes measurement.

Drowning is currently the second leading cause of injury-related death for children 1-4 years of age in the United States and is the leading cause of death worldwide for boys ages 5-14 years. The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies it as a public health threat and advocates for reducing drowning deaths by understanding geographical, cultural, and societal risk factors. To these three we added a fourth: historical studies.

Coordination cage catalysis has commonly relied on the endogenous binding of substrates, exploiting the cavity microenvironment and spatial constraints to engender increased reactivity or interesting selectivity. Nonetheless, there are issues with this approach, such as the frequent occurrence of product inhibition or the limited applicability to a wide range of substrates and reactions. Here we describe a strategy in which the cage acts as an exogenous catalyst, wherein reactants, intermediates and products remain unbound throughout the course of the catalytic cycle.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatment with stimulant products has been shown to be safe and effective; however, there are remaining concerns about their possible adverse effects on growth trajectories. We conducted a systematic review of the extant literature derived from ecologically valid databases and registries to assess the body of knowledge about the effects of stimulants on growth trajectories in naturalistic samples. Using PubMed and PsycINFO, we searched for articles published before February 8, 2023 that focused on growth findings associated with stimulant treatment in pediatric ADHD from comprehensive datasets derived from naturalistic population studies.

Around 14% of pregnancies globally are affected by gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), making it one of the most common disorders experienced by women in pregnancy. While dietary, physical activity and supplement interventions have been implemented to prevent GDM, with varying levels of success, altering the gut microbiota through diet is a promising strategy for prevention. Several studies have demonstrated that women with GDM likely have a different gut microbiota to pregnant women without GDM, demonstrating that the gut microbiota may play a part in glycemic control and the development of GDM.
